Marguerite Johnson, known to friends as “Peggy,” passed away peacefully on May 12, 2018, at the age of 88.
Born on July 7, 1929 in Newton, Iowa to parents Henry and Marjorie Smith, Peggy moved with her family to Washington as a teenager. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Johnson and raised two children, Christie and Gary. Peggy enjoyed cooking, travelling, entertaining and vacationing in Hawaii with friends and family.
Peggy was an extremely generous individual and always had a kind thing to say. She was passionate about her family, her faith, and philanthropic causes related to childhood hunger, access to drinking water and education. She loved P.E.O., a philanthropic group supporting the education of women, and was a member for 27 years.
She is survived by her daughter Christie, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband Jack, son Gary and grandchild Matt preceded her in death.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 19834 8th Ave. S., Des Moines, WA, with Pastor Ken Onstot presiding. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peggy’s life.
