McCullough rolls with Tide
West Seattle graduate Morgan McCullough continues to stand out for the University of Alabama baseball team.
McCullough is batting for a .325 average with the Crimson Tide, racking up 39 hits in 120 at-bats. McCullough has 21 RBI and 23 runs along with 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs. He has also walked 23 times and only struck out once.
The former Seattle Mariners draft choice out of high school plays shortstop.
Pryor, Cards capture title
The North Idaho College Cardinals captured the Northwest Association of Colleges men’s basketball championship with a 104-73 victory over Walla Walla on March 17, aided by the 15 points of West Seattle graduate Nate Pryor.
Pryor shot 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-6 from the free throw line in the game played in the Everett gymnasium, hauling down one rebound.
McCluskey strikes for Stars
Kennedy graduate and West Seattle hometown athlete Vince McCluskey has scored four goals and two assists in 23 games for the Tacoma Stars professional indoor soccer team.
The Stars face a 7:05 p.m. Friday playoff at the home of the Turlock Express.
Kilifi contributes for Seawolves
Tyee graduate Olive Kilifi continues to play for the Seattle Seawolves of Major League Rugby.
Kilifi and the defending championship team from Tukwila play their next home match on Sunday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at the Starfire complex.
Giomi, Ducks make Final Four
West Seattle graduate Lydia Giomi and the University of Oregon women’s basketball team made it as far as the NCAA Final Four this year, with their run ending with a 72-67 loss to Baylor last Friday.
Giomi played 276 minutes over 28 games for the Ducks, scoring 54 points for a 1.9 average on 23-for-37 shooting from the field and 8-for-17 shooting from the free throw line.
Giomi also hauled down 63 rebounds and had five assists, two steals and eight blocked shots.
Barnette goes on disabled list
Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette started off this season with the Chicago Cubs on the 10-day disabled list.
Barnette was put on the list March 28 retroactive to March 25 because of inflammation in his right shoulder.
Brigham with Baby Cakes
Thomas Jefferson graduate Jeff Brigham started this year with the Class AAA Pacific Coast League New Orleans Baby Cakes after being brought up by the parent Miami Marlins in September of 2018.
Brigham was placed on the seven-day disabled list April 9 after giving up one run in only one inning of work.
Kela strikes out six
Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela has six strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work over five games for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Kela has an 0-0 record with a 6.23 earned run average so far coming out of the bullpen for the Bucs.
