The Ballard High School Playmakers are starting the year with their first-ever virtual production: the comedy Greater Tuna. Live streamed November 5, 6 and 7 at 7 p.m., the play is an affectionate comment on Southern life, small-town living, and the attitudes that go with it.
Debuting in Austin, Texas in 1981, Greater Tuna is the first of four comedic plays written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard, each set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the "third-smallest" town in the state. With its quirky characters, Greater Tuna is a funny presentation of many aspects of life in a small town.
“Most of the Southern comedies performed at Ballard High School are lighthearted, and this play pokes at the stereotypes of small communities with humor and does not pull punches,” says Theatre Director Shawn Riley. “It’s very relatable, very silly, and over the top. The authors are laughing with small backwoods towns and not at them.”
The play features 20 BHS students.

Performance Details
The play will livestream November 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Performers rehearsed completely via Microsoft Teams with Riley and videographer Gustavo Gutierrez. Greater Tuna will be livestreamed via a password-protected YouTube link. Purchasing a “streaming” ticket is the same as it is as buying a ticket to a traditional live production. You will receive an email with the link in it to view the show. NOTE: Though the ticket you buy will not indicate a specific date, the link is only good for one viewing, so make sure you have cleared your calendar to enjoy the show. It is NOT a live link that can be viewed at your pleasure or sent to others to watch the show when you are finished with it.
