Boys wrestling
State 4A
Kennedy Catholic senior Mateo De La Pena captured first place in the 160-pound division at the Tacoma Dome Saturday, defeating Wyatt Springer of Lake Stevens by pin with 3 minutes, 39 seconds elapsed in the championship match.
Two Lancer teammates took second place in their divisions, going undefeated before losing the championship match.
Matthias Collins came in second at 152 pounds, getting edged, 4-3, in the final.
Placing second at 190 was Josh Flores, who was pinned 1:16 into the championship.
Antonio De La Pena won the match for seventh place at 106 pounds, 7-3, and Lancers teammate Emanuel Collins won by forfeit in the 160 seventh place match.
State 3A
Ethan Heathershaw of Chief Sealth finished fifth at 195 pounds Saturday, winning his last match by pin in 4:06.
Seahawks teammate Micah Policarpio won seventh place at 170 pounds by a 9-7 score.
Girls wrestling
State
Delaney Graves of Chief Sealth grappled to a second place finish at 140 pounds, taking a narrow 8-7 defeat in her final.
Teammate Saleen Kelly came in sixth at 155, losing the match for fifth place by pin in 1:58
All classifications were combined into one division for the girls.
Girls basketball
West Seattle 47, Liberty 42
The Wildcats will live to see another day of state Class 3A regional play after Tuesday's win over Liberty of Renton at home.
West Seattle advances to play Auburn at 8 p.m. Friday in the Puyallup High School gymnasium with the winner going on to the state final 12 in the Tacoma Dome next Wednesday.
The Wildcats were seeded No. 15 going into regionals and Auburn is seeded No. 10. Liberty was the No. 18 seed.
