Join Burien Actors Theatre (BAT) for an open house with food, drink, and music on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, on plans for a center for the arts.
BAT would like to show YOU our plans and get YOUR feedback, from 6 to 8 pm, at Marlaina's Mediterranean Kitchen at 643 SW 152nd St, Burien, WA 98166, in the banquet room. We will show preliminary drawings by LMN Architects (the architects for McCaw Hall in Seattle and the Vashon Performing Arts Center, plus many more venues nationwide).
South King County is an arts venue desert. BAT plans on changing that.
In 2020, South King County lost the Burien Annex, one of just a very few performing arts venues in South King County. As seen in this current performing arts venue heat map, https://nwtheatre.org/venue-map/, compared to the rest of King County, South King County is underrepresented.
BAT's plans include a 300-seat performing art space, a gallery, rehearsal spaces, a multi-use/small venue, a busker platform, a coffee shop/small venue, plus approximately 100 units of housing located above the theater space.
A very conservative estimate is that this venue would add over $1.3 million in spending to the Burien economy. That is over and above any amounts spent at the venue, plus it will add jobs.
The event is free, but RSVP to help us with planning at rsvp@BATtheatre.org. Please drop in between 6 and 8 pm, look at our plans, and give us your feedback and thoughts. Light appetizers will be prepared by the fantastic people at Marlaina's Mediterranean Kitchen, and Chet Korpt will play the Kora. All are included with your visit.
Hope to see you there!
