Our sister, Susanne Steffes (56) of Kailua, Hawaii suddenly passed away on May 15, 2024, at the Queens Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. Her loss was completely unexpected, and her family and friends are profoundly saddened. Susanne was born in Fort Benning, Georgia on November 15, 1967, to the late Edward and Susan (Laudolff) Steffes. She was one of four children: Marguerite, Edward, Susanne, and Michael. Susanne graduated from North Fond du Lac High School in 1985 and attended the University of Washington, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor's in nursing. She went on to get her master's degree. A life-long learner, she continued to expand her knowledge in nursing care and graduated with a PhD in 2015. Susanne began her career in healthcare with a certificate as a nurse's aide and ended with a doctorate degree as an advanced practice nurse specialized in cardiac care.
Susanne loved to knit and worked on numerous projects simultaneously. Pray for her family as they try to finish those projects in her honor. She enjoyed shopping for clothes and shoes. Susanne dressed with style and a little flair - loved her red lipstick and toes. She treasured her time in Hawaii with walks on the beach, paddleboarding and watching the waves roll in along with the beautiful sunrise and sunsets every day. Susanne was a dog lover and a wonderful human to Maggie and Regis, her two Shih Tzus until they went to doggie heaven. Susanne truly loved her work. She was recognized by her co-workers for her dedication, passion for chosen field, and openness to share her knowledge with others. Susanne touched the lives of many patients, always focused on improving their health. Family, friends, and co-workers remember her laughter, joy, and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of caring, love, and laughter. Even in death, Susanne's kind and giving heart saved others as she donated her kidneys and tissue so others can live. Her spirit continues to live on through others.
Memories of Susanne will be cherished and celebrated by survivors including her siblings, Marguerite (Mark) Weisgerber, Edward (Jacqueline) Steffes, and Michael (Leah) Steffes; her partner, Dean Baxter; her nieces and nephews, Sarah Chisick, Connor (Alana) Chisick, Blaine Chisick, Rebekah Chisick, Steven Chisick, Andrew Steffes, Marria Steffes, Mellissa Steffes (Dennis Huntingon Jr.), and Michael Steffes Jr.; aunts and uncles, Barbara (Laudolff) Koerner, Sylvester (Valerie) Laudolff, Richard (Carol) Laudolff, Sandra (Kenneth) Creek, Margaret (John) Class, Jeanie VanDeraa, Eloise (Erhardt) Wowerat, Ann Burg, Joseph (Tina) Steffes; and numerous cousins.
