Jean was born to John H. and Alice Crowther, of West Seattle where she lived 96 of her 98 years.
An avid swimmer, she was the first one, at age 14, to swim in the brand-new Colman Pool (Circa 1940's) and claims to have gone to this pool every day with friends from her youth. She also became a local swim champion there. Then in her late teens she spent her time tirelessly plinking on the piano, until she got a job playing at the local USO for many years.
Jean went on to work at Rainier Bank, in the trust department, for approximately 20 years before retiring.
West Seattle is also where she met the love of her life and married John D. Carroll (50 years), who pre-deceased her in 1998. These two were quite active and well known throughout the northwest for their square dancing (and calling) and made many friends in the process.
Later in life Jean would say her second home was the ‘Seattle Senior Center.’ Jean was a member for over 40 years and volunteered there for over 20. This is where she came to know her trusted friend (and caretaker) Karen Sisson, who was the director of the Center for many years and "her friend to the end."
Jean would also say that she outlived everyone she grew up with, but we know she will be missed by many who knew and loved her, including her surviving six nephews and their families.
RIP Aunt Jean
