Chief's claim questioned

In her recent letter to the editor, Penny Pritchard Clifton asks what the is the point of questioning her family's ethnic origin.

Does Penny not understand that the people of White Center, who are largely minorities, have questioned Penny's brother, Russ Prichard, as to why there are no minorities on the North Highline Unincorporated Council?

Your newspaper has printed an article stating that Russ is one quarter "Native American." It is apparent that there are people who question Russ' honesty as he makes this statement.

It has nothing to do with their family w

Parks nixes preschool changes

Rumors of scaling back a preschool program at Loyal Heights Community Center mobilized a group of concerned parents last week and prompted the Seattle Parks Department to call for a public meeting.

On Monday, the department announced it would not make any changes to the room assignment or programming of the preschool and would seek to replace teachers who are leaving at the end of the year.

It's hard to say whether parents were misinformed or the Parks Department backpedaled on some proposed changes, but the dustup started and ended in relatively short order.

Study: Garbage site won't increase traffic

The comings and goings of garbage trucks at the city's proposed intermodal solid-waste transfer facility being considered for Harbor Island wouldn't much affect other traffic, according to a transportation consultant.

Garbage trucks from throughout the city would haul their loads to the planned facility, where the refuse would be compacted and placed inside sealed containers for shipment by train to a landfill in eastern Oregon.

Planners from Seattle Public Utilities and their private consultants presented the results of their draft supplemental environmental im

Inspiration from Garden Show

I go to the show to see the display gardens, and I usually buy a preview party ticket so that I get to see and photograph the gardens sans crowds. I also usually work at the show, so I get to see the display gardeners several times. Since I did a show garden myself last year, I am a tiny bit less critical that I used to be. It is a ton of work to create a show garden, but now that I have walked the said mile, I feel a bit more entitled to my constructive criticism.

As usual, I liked bits and pieces of many gardens.

Over 121 students from schools around the state entered the tournament. Osseward was awarded a first place gold medal for the ninth- grade division. He was sometimes matched against older players.
