June 10th is the annual fundraiser for the Highline Historical Society.
Ballard resident Janice Bollitti-Pace first heard about the Rampathon project while listening to local AM radio station KIXI. She had missed the deadline for last year's applications and thought if it came up again next year she would apply. The opportunity arose and she was chosen as one of Rampathon's 2006 recipients.
Bollitti-Pace was confined to a power wheelchair three years ago as a result of Osteoarthritis. Getting in and out of her home was challenging to say the least.
After 44 years of catching bad guys and serving the citizens of the city, Lt. Roy Wedlund of the Seattle Police Department has retired his badge.
His tenure as a police officer is the third longest in the department's history. Only one person has worked one more year and another two more years than Wedlund.
Wedlund does not have any big plans now that he is no longer wearing his uniform. "I'm 71 years old. After 44 years, why should I be doing anything?" he said.
Wedlund grew up in Anacortes where his cousin was the Chief of Police. "That influenced me.

I was concerned and annoyed after reading your May 10 article about the service at Swedish Ballard Hospital changing. It brought back memories of my mother and the others in Ballard who joined together to knock on doors to raise money for a Ballard Community Hospital and now we will no longer have a full service hospital.

This is a vote of appreciation for the Ballard resident who provided the toilets near the start of the Syttende Mai parade route. Many people used them: spectators, parade participants, even Seattle Police. It was a thoughtful and generous act and he deserves much appreciation and thanks.
