It happens all the time.

You're driving down the road and a police officer pulls out behind you. You check your rearview mirror, your speed, and put both hands on the wheel as beads of sweat start to form and your heart pounds.

"There can't be anything wrong," you think. But you're wracking your brain for reasons you might be pulled over.

This happened a few days ago on my way to the office.

Strawberries, art to mix at annual Burien festival

Burien will host its annual Strawberry and Arts Festival Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18.

Festivities again will be at the Burien Community Center and Dottie Harper Park at Fourth Avenue Southwest and Southwest 146th Street.

New this year is the Family "Art Jam" Stage, Invitational Juried Art Show and Tiki Bar serving strawberry margaritas, with a huge assortment of innovative, vibrant performers, including Latino musicians and dancers.

But don't worry traditionalists, the Burien Arts Association will still offer the festival's signature fresh strawberry

Burien may request property tax hike

The city of Burien may ask voters to approve a six-year property tax levy lid lift this year to maintain public safety and other local service levels.

If placed on the ballot and approved, the tax rate would increase.

"The city cannot maintain existing services with its current revenues," said Linda Gorton, finance director, during a June 5 presentation of the 2007-2012 Financial Plan and Capital Improvement Program.

Public safety accounts for 54 percent of total general fund expenditures, she explained.

Port awards grants for streams

Communities near Sea-Tac International Airport will receive help restoring streams, controlling weeds along Miller and Walker Creeks and making other environmental improvements from $300,000 in grants from the Port of Seattle.

Fewer overweight trucks ticketed by state patrol

Fewer trucks hauling dirt to the third runway project at Sea-Tac International Airport this year are overweight, Lt. Julie Myer of the Washington State Patrol told Citizens Against Sea-Tac Expansion (CASE) members on June 7.

In 2005, troopers completed 1,736 inspections of trucks headed to the runway with 153 vehicles issued citations for being overweight.

So far this year, the Patrol has inspected 196 vehicles.

Warriors enjoy trip to Yakima for state

YAKIMA--Seattle Christian's boys baseball team made it somewhere that many other baseball teams wished they made it to -- state championship weekend.

The Warriors lost to the Brewster Bears, 20-1, in a 1A state semifinal at Parker Field in Yakima May 26.

So the Warriors had a bad game on an important day, and, the third time's the charm for a win theory against the Bears did not happen.
