Seattle Department of Transportation engineers are planning to remove one pedestrian crosswalk on Northwest Market Street and add another.
Next spring, the department could remove traffic lanes on 24th Avenue Northwest as well.
The changes are part of $1.3 million in pedestrian safety improvements at 22 locations around Seattle.
A judge has dismissed the lawsuit brought by Northwest Animal Rights Network and two private citizens against Woodland Park Zoo and the City of Seattle.
In its lawsuit, the Animal Rights Network attempted to force transfer of the zoo's Asian elephant Bamboo away from the Northwest and the human-interactive lifestyle she has known all her life to a private elephant facility in Tennessee. The group made various allegations related to the federal Endangered Species Act, the State Environmental Policy Act and unspecified public trust obligations.
Scoring four goals is a big achievement in any soccer league and Ballard High School freshman Sara Ives did it against the Bothell Cougars on September 12 in only her third varsity game.
Ballard ended up winning the game 4-0. In past years, the Beavers would have lost the game against the eastside school.
Ives scored two more goals on September 14 to help the Beavers defeat Franklin 9-0.
Billy Rodgers, head coach of the Ballard High School boy's basketball team, has joined the Seattle Sonics as a Basketball Outreach Manager.
Rodgers was hired on July 10 and immediately went to work overseeing Sonics basketball camps and clinics this summer.
He sold his business All Sports Unlimited, which was based in West Seattle.
"I'm on the basketball end of community relations," said Rodgers.
One of his projects is the Sonics and Storm Legends Tour, with former Sonic stars going out in the community to meet kids.

Promotional prices are offered on environmentally friendly garden products at lawn and garden centers, home improvement centers and various nurseries throughout King County.

Seven seniors received the Foss Home and Village Special Senior Appreciation Award on Sept. 14 during a ceremony at the Bitterlake Community Center.

1. A man, who lives on the 2600 block of South 288th Street, phoned the Federal Way Police to report that someone had fraudulently used credit cards in his name. The man's report stated that he was working outside the country approximately three months ago. He recently received bills from three credit cards companies, although he felt sure he had cancelled those accounts and the corresponding cards. The man said that two of the companies requested a police report to clear the accounts.
