Stuck in golf mud trap after trying a shortcut

So sunny, so nice, so Elsbeth offered to ride with me if I wanted to go out for nine holes of hit-and-hunt golf. The winter has been so long I was pretty excited.

The sign said "Carts Stay on Paths," so there was a lot of walking and the course was wonderful but the rough was very deep. If you bent one too much you often could not find it.

My first game in a year was not pretty but I got a lot of exercise.

We did have to call the clubhouse only once.

After a sterling drive that accidentally hit a limb my ball dove into knee-deep grass.

Titans tripped up by Puyallup

The good baseball season start has suddenly started going bad for the Todd Beamer Titans after a 4-0 South Puget Sound League South record to start. Now these boys of spring have lost two league games in a row, including the latest, a 4-2 loss to visitor Puyallup Tuesday.

"Tough one," said head coach Jerry Peterson, afterward. "And we lost the game before this one, too, to Graham-Kapowsin, 8-1."

The Titans now are 4-2 in the SPSL South and Puyallup is in first all by themselves at 5-0-1.

This game was definitely the Titans' mistakes causing their loss.

Federal Way snags second at Invite

Jay Davis and Jacqie Evenson ended the night for the Federal Way Eagles with double victories in the boys and girls 4x400 relays even though Issaquah won the meet, 186 points to the Eagles 165.50, in the 45th annual Bill Harris Invitational at Federal Way Memorial Field Tuesday.

Last Thursday in a dual meet versus Tahoma, Davis was around 20 yards back of first place in the start of the final baton handoff of the 4x400. And Davis just flew around the corner to take the lead into the straightaway...for three or four seconds, before losing it.

Book reading raises clams

More than 3,000 elementary and middle school students at seven Des Moines-area schools participated this academic year in the Book/Clam-O-Rama.

And the reading will continue on Saturday, April 28, at the Waterland Reading Invitational, when adults get into the act.

The reading events are part of a campaign to raise money to bring a bronze, child-friendly, maritime-themed sculpture to the grounds of the Des Moines Library.

It costs a lot of "clams" to create a sculpture, and for every book students read during the Clam-O-Rama, dozens of local businesses, organiz

City reopens West Hylebos Wetlands Park

The City of Federal Way Parks Department re-opened the West Hylebos Wetlands Park Wednesday, April 11, after repairing storm damage from the recent winter storms. Crews were able to open the portion of the boardwalk that had the most severe damage. However, there will still be some areas where visitors will need to use caution over tripping hazards until the boardwalk is replaced later this summer.

"Public safety is our first priority.

King Aquatic Club displays its world-class talent at World Championship

With Federal Way hosting one of the nation's most prestigious swimming facilities, it might seem natural, then, that the community might also welcome some of the world's most talented swimmers.

Members of the The King Aquatic Club, a Seattle-based swim club for exceptionally gifted athletes with championship aspirations, showcased their talent at the Weyerhaeuser / King County Aquatic Center recently, before heading off to participate in the World Championships in Australia.

The staff of swimmers and coaches boast resumes as impressive as their trophy cases.

Fee Fi Pho Fun

I'm not a foodie, but I know what I like, and what I like for lunch around these parts is usually Teriyaki.

There must be fifty or more Teriyaki joints between Des Moines and Milton, and I've tried quite a few of them.

In particular, Chicken Teriyaki is the lunch I favor.

There is something about the combination of the sauce and the charbroiled texture that keeps drawing me back.
