Public views sought on King County charter

For the first time in a decade, King County residents will have a chance to make changes to the county charter, a document much like the county's constitution, providing the framework for how the region is governed.

Every 10 years, the county must convene a committee of citizens to review the charter and take feedback from the public on potential changes to how county government is set up and how it operates.

The 2007-2008 King County Charter Review Commission will be hosting nine public meetings - one in each county council district - in June and July to hear public comm

Players make all-league team

If the post season honors are any indication, the Ballard Beavers made great strides in earning respect in the always tough KingCo conference.

Head Coach Kevin Miller was named the Coach of the Year in KingCo and two players received were named to the all league team. Six others made Honorable Mention.

Ballard finished with a 12 and 8 record, 13 and 10 overall. The conference record qualified them for the playoffs, where they beat Lake Washington, before falling to Woodinville and Redmond.

Miller was given the award during a meeting of KingCo coaches.

Beavers losing Ellingsen to graduation

Ballard's Leslie Ellingsen has starred in three sports for the Beavers, basketball, soccer and softball. She is one of the top softball players in the entire state of Washington and has received an offer from Arizona State University. Leslie Ellingsen has been named to the KingCo 4A All-League fast-pitch team. She was joined by third base player Hallie Hemmingsen who made the second team. Vaughn Meiller

A memorial service for Vaughn Meiller will be held Wednesday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Bonney-Watson Parker Chapel, 900 S.W. 146th Street in Burien.

Mr. Meiller, who was executive director of the Highline Medical Center Foundation, passed away at his home on Monday, May 7, after a courageous battle with cancer. He had served as executive director of the foundation since 1997.

Willard C. Julum

Willard C. Julum died suddenly May 9, 2007, of a heart attack at Lake Tapps. Services were held May 15 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Auburn, and he was buried at Gethsemane, Federal Way.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean Payne-Julum, sons Brad of Olympia and Blaze of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; daughter Darcie (Billy) Jacobsen of Lake Tapps; four grandchildren; and sister Marian Julem-Weaver of Seattle.

He graduated from Highline High School as ASB president in 1951.

He and his best friend Ken Leingang enrolled at Eastern Washington University.
