Seattle and other local agencies will participate in a yearlong demonstration project testing the performance of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in an urban area.
The money will come from the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory, matched by funding from program participants.
The Metropolitan King County Council has passed an ordinance allowing the creation of a new Professional Standards Division in the King County Sheriff's Office.
This new division would consolidate and manage all departmental functions related to the hiring, training, discipline, and development of department personnel.
"(The) action is a great step toward better oversight and accountability in the Sheriff's Office," said Councilmember Larry Phillips, co-sponsor of the ordinance.
Vehicle owners in our state have a new option for having fun with their license plates and supporting worthwhile causes.
Starting this month, the Department of Licensing is allowing our state's recently expanded selection of specialty license plates to be personalized by vehicle owners with messages of up to seven characters.
Personalized license plates aren't new - there are currently more than 85,000 vehicles registered with personalized license plates. Until now, however, personalized plates have only been available on standard plate backgrounds.

Federal Way Police officers were attempting to locate a suspect, with an outstanding felony warrant from Department of Corrections , on the evening of November 7, 2007.
On the morning of Thursday, November 8th, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Federal Way police officers located the suspect in his vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Southwest Dash Point Road and Southwest 312th Street.
The suspect, Khalif Dean Toms, a black male in his thirties, then fled on foot in the area.
