Ice Cream is the heart and soul of Husky

The Husky Deli in the West Seattle Junction is justifiably famous, especially for its ice cream.

People come to Husky year round for a cone, a cup or a few gallons of what is easily West Seattle's favorite frozen treat.

Since the Husky Deli began, ice cream has been their single most popular product. They go through 500 gallons a week in the winter and more than 1000 a week during summer.

Offering more than 40 flavors.

The blended product is then output into 2 or 5 gallon plastic tubs carefully sealed by hand and then taken to the freezer where it chills for a minimum of four hours at 30 degrees below zero, until it's ready for sale. "Ice cream actually is what got us through the depression,"said Jack Miller, Husky owner.

Husky does take special requests for flavors and they regularly create custom flavors for area auctions even making Garlic flavor ice cream.

But, no surprise, vanilla is still the favorite

Swimming - Some Beavers qualify for state

During last weekend's 2008 Boy's 4A Seaking District 2 meet, the Ballard Beavers were in the thick of the action with 12 swimmers entered.

Although the team lost boys to graduation and was hit hard by illnesses this season, they have come on strong in recent weeks.

"It's a great group of kids, they are very coach able," said first-year head coach Thor Tyson.

As the team has regained its health, times have dropped, sending many swimmers to districts.

"They are excited and ready to go, " said Tyson.

Todd Beamer trounces Kentlake in playoff

Todd Beamer Titans! Just collosal

In a game that maybe after Beamer could have called it a season, a 82-54 tiebreaker SPSL seeding loss to Puyallup three days earlier, the Titans came back to play their crossover game against the SPSL North's No. 4 seed.

And they came back from the dead in that game, against Kentlake, for a 71-63 win at Bethel High School last Friday.

After a great win over the same Puyallup team to end the season tied for third in the league, the Titans were crushed three days later by the same team.

That hurt.

Valentine's Day

I am not the most romantic guy in the world, but on Valentine's Day last year, I decided to surprise my sweetie with a special, home-made dinner.

A bottle of Mimosa from Trader Joes, some chocolates from Marlene's and as the centerpiece of the meal, a nice organic turkey loaf, her favorite.

A phone call to Mom got me straightened out on the recipe, which I promptly ignored, and as I smooshed up the ingredients that I like, a brilliant idea struck me: why not make the meatloaf in the shape of a heart?

I tossed the meatloaf pan aside and found a larger baking dis

Strong mayor = less government

To the Editor:

What are the top five things you as a taxpayer, business owner or citizen want to see from your local city government? Do they include: Leadership? Trust? Greater accountability? Representative government? Lower taxes? City growth? Lower crime? Better parks? Safer roads? The best education in our schools? Public safety?

Thomas Payne Wrote: "Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one."

Did you know that originally the U.S. Constitution allowed for the U.S.
