Des Moines council OK's development

The Des Moines City Council approved last week the final layout of the Graceview housing development located at the intersection of Kent/Des Moines Road and South 234th Street.

James W. Grace applied for the development March 4, 2004, signed an environmental mitigation agreement with the city on May 6 to protect an adjacent wetland, and the council accepted the proposed preliminary plat on June 24.

One environmental consideration is the presence of Chinook salmon, a threatened species, in Massey Creek. The creek extends onto the property.

Airport trucks back on roads in June

The Port of Seattle is moving ahead with construction of a $413 million rental car facility at South 160th Street and International Boulevard, near State Route 518.

For nearby residents, the biggest impact for the next few years may be increased traffic congestion around the site.

Port commissioners had placed a moratorium on new capital projects following a sharply critical state audit in December.

Eagles launch new season with a split

Sitting by a roaring fire in the fireplace, drinking hot chocolate, taking a hot bath or taking a hot shower.

Those were the activities people were talking about at Thursday's Federal Way home track meet against Kentwood.

But there was something to be said about the meet itself.

The Eagle boys posted a 100-35 victory over the Conquerors, while the girls took a 90-49 loss in the action at Federal Way Memorial Field.

"The kids performed well under bad conditions," said Federal Way boys head coach Sam Beesley.

It is the Rams' best finish since 1971 when they took third place.
