On March 15, a record 1,149 vehicles brought 101 tons of recyclable materials to Federal Way's semiannual recycling event - the highest participation and recycling levels seen to date.

Recycling events are held in Federal Way twice each year, and collect a wide range of materials beyond what's collected curbside, including appliances, scrap wood, batteries, tires, computers, televisions, fluorescent tubes, scrap wire, and light strands.

Part 8: Why are our schools failing our children?

In the Middle Ages one of the favorite methods of executions was "drawing and quartering."

This involves attaching the horse to each arm and leg, then the horses all pull in different directions until the victim is dismembered.

I am sure that all of us today would find this unacceptable even if we were in favor of Capital punishment.

I believe that school principals, certainly secondary ones, are daily facing this kind of punishment.

Saltwater Park bridge closed

Recently discovered soil erosion under a footing of a bridge over Saltwater State Park has resulted in its emergency closure by the city of Des Moines.

Spotted by consultants on March 26 during a seismic evaluation, a large cavity was created by the sloughing of soil under the spread footing of the west column on the south end and Woodmont side of the bridge.

The affected structure is the north twin bridge on 16th Avenue South at South 250th Street.

City crews have marked a detour route.

Drama from Greece plays like "Grease"

Quickly! What do you think of when you hear the term, "Greek Drama?"

If you're like most of us, you are probably visualizing dreary tomes you were forced to read during high school literature class, filled with toga-clad centenarians, hard-to-understand Greek chorus members and long speeches about war, valor and honor.

Well, the Burien Little Theatre has a wonderful surprise for you.
