"Senior City" breaks ground in Federal Way

Only a few steps from the Federal Way Transit Center will soon stand the mixed use senior housing project spearheaded by the Korean Women's Association (KWA) known as "Senior City."

"Senior City" will combine housing for over 122 low-income seniors, 3,000 square-feet of commercial space for the KWA social services office to serve tenants and the general public of south King County, and a social hall.

Last Thursday, September 25, marked the groundbreaking ceremony for "Senior City," and community leaders from across the region came to celebrate this historic project.

Touchdown on runway

After a nearly two-decade controversy over construction of the third runway, the first plane touched down on the newly built runway on Sept. 25.

The brand new Alaska Airlines 737 touched down five times before taking off again as part of the Federal Aviation Administration Agency' certification for the new runway at Sea--Tac International Airport. On a sixth approach, the plane landed.

Landing tests of a wide-body jet will occur later this month

The controversial runway opens for commercial flights next month-on Nov.

Stuart Creighton Runway?

Highline citizens were invited to an open house put on by Port of Seattle officials last week at Boulevard Park Presbyterian Church to observe the upcoming Grand Opening of the remarkable Third Runway at the Sea-Tac Airport.

The church is under the flight path of the marvelous new runway.

I was unable to attend so I missed the opportunity to meet many officials who helped create this testament to the determination, skill and patience of thousands of leaders in their zeal.

This amazing billion dollar effort which displaced thousands of homes stands higher than t

Graffiti tagger bugs neighborhood residents

1. The resident of a home on the 300 block of Southwest 323rd Street contacted Federal Way police via an online report to let officers know of malicious mischief that is occurrring in his neighborhood. According to the report, the victim stated that an unknown male continues to spray paint on his property without his permission. The vandal is also tagging other pieces of property throughout the neighborhood. The most recent incident took place around 7:50 a.m. on the morning of September 23. The man told officers that the vandal comes by every Saturday between 7 and 11 p.m.

Vikings trounce Titans to tune of 50-0

OK, so Todd Beamer looked clumsy again, off-kilter as a crane fly flying into a light, playing Puyallup, getting stung again and again, and again..., losing, 50-0, at Federal Way Memorial Friday.

“They came out and played hard,” said Titans head coach Gem Abe afterward.

The Vikings fought harder, and were just plain bigger and more physical. It was better not to be the Titans in battle on this night. Even the Puyallup student body drowned out the Todd Beamer fans trying, too, to cheer.

FedWay schools "in need of improvement"

Recently the latest WASL scores came out for the state.

This is not good news as the level of achievement has "hit a plateau" according to the "experts."

In hitting this plateau the state has come up against the rules of "No Child Left Behind" which does not make any allowances for "plateaus."

Now most of the secondary schools in the state are now labeled "In need of improvement."

Some, including those in Federal Way, have now been in this category for three years.
