Cross Country - MacDonald leads team to SeaKing

Kyle MacDonald's goal for his senior cross country season was to lead his whole West Seattle High School team beyond the All-Metro meet into the SeaKing District championship race. Last Thursday at Lower Woodland, MacDonald led, his teammates followed, and the West Seattle boys advanced to cross country's version of the playoffs for the first time this century.

Fourth-year coaches, Christopher and Annette Silvernale, and their team, knew that in order to finish in the top eight, they had to score fewer points than either Eastside Catholic or Ingraham.

"I've wanted to put together a book of images from the Hylebos wetlands for a long time," said Bynum, who said he has lugged his camera and lenses to the popular park in Federal Way at least once each week since 2005.

King County Councilman and budget committee chairman Larry Philips said county criminal justice services account for over 71 percent of the $600 million general fund budget.

The King County Executive ordered all of the county criminal justice agencies to cut their budget for 2009 by 11.4 percent.

The South Correctional Entity (SCORE), a group of King County cities, is working on plans to build a new $80 million jail, possibly in Des Moines, to house misdemeanor offenders.

Plans for a new jail come in response to an announcement by King County officials that, as of 2012, the county would no longer house misdemeanor offenders.

The new jail would hold 680 inmates.

Right now most cities are shipping misdemeanor offenders to Yakima County Jail because it is cheaper than housing inmates in King County.
