Your 401(k) is safe with me

Hello everyone. I'm not in the habit of responding to letters-to-the-editor or other opinion concerning my positions, but recent ink spilled in West Seattle warrants a response because we are living in uncertain times and my constituents don't need misinformation raising anxiety levels any higher.

There will be no KO of 401(k) plans by me or my colleagues for that matter.

People care differently

How pompous and sanctimonious can one get? I refer to the letter last week, "No one cares." Most of us care very much, but we care differently.

What you apparently don't care about is our ability and right to hold an opinion other than your own. That almost bothers me more than all the issues you brought up in your self-centered letter.

Thank God for all who come together with different opinions and suggestions - hashing them out, and hopefully coming up with the best solutions.

She cares - not enough

I found Mary Ellen Kayner's letter to the editor in your last issue very inspiring. She wrote,

"No one cares about ... redistribution of wealth, education ... I am endorsing ... McCain ... an imperfect America, which is still the best nation in the world."

And she finished with the words, "I care."

After reading her letter it was clear to me that Mary cares - just not enough.

I'm thankful for so many things

That Fall's approaching visit brings

As shadows of her dark embrace

So gently cover summer's face

For some, she comes too soon each year

Extinguishing the summer's cheer

But I don't mind her in the least

Because she brings Thanksgiving's feast

In spite of all you must prepare

No other day can quite compare

Park causes sparks to fly

Sparks flew between impassioned speakers for and against the proposed California Place Park at a recent meeting attended by 80 Admiral residents and Seattle Parks Department and Neighborhood Planning representatives.

The meeting, called a "public workshop" by city officials, to discuss the future of a quarter-acre semi-wooded triangle that hugs the east side of Admiral Congregational Church and borders Southwest Hill Street and the busier California Avenue.

Seattle Parks and Recreation owns the site, and Neighborhood Matching Funds is offering $15,000 to install a "playsc

South Seattle has 'poor air quality'

A study that seemed buried or lost showed up on the Internet and confirmed what people have thought for a long time -South Seattle had an air pollution problem.

After commiserating with her neighbors in August about the smells coming from different industrial sites and the excessive dust in the air, Georgetown resident Kathy Nyland called the non-profit group People for Puget Sound.

Nyland was informed that years earlier residents of South Park and Georgetown had similar concerns and questioned the health impacts of local air pollution.

Delridge to get direct bus route to Junction

Residents in the Delridge neighborhood have been left wanting when it comes to bus routes.

While Delridge Way currently is serviced by the 120 and 125, these routes only run north and south through the neighborhood.

The south end of Delridge is included in Metro's Route 128, but in north Delridge there are no routes running east and west to connect residents to neighborhoods to the west of 35th Avenue.

However, now King County Metro Transit is considering new Route 50 that would connect a section of Delridge Way to the Alaska Street Junction.

The route was designed to connect Columbia City and Seward Park to Link light rail stations. The new bus would run from the Othello Link station through Seward Park, the Columbia City Link station, Veterans Administration Medical Center, SODO and Harbor Island to end in West Seattle.

Once the route crosses Southwest Spokane Street it turns south on Delridge Way Southwest, where it travels for approximately three blocks before turning west on Southwest Genesee Street.

A recent Wall Street Journal article listed Seattle as the number one market in the nation to being begin bouncing back from the economic slump. That news brings a smile to the faces of Phyllis and David Danforth, who have some news of their own. They have just completed the purchase Coldwell Banker Del Bianco realty in Burien.

The Danforths have been a Coldwell Banker affiliate since 1993, with principal offices in Federal Way and boasting 250 agents on their roster.
