NEW Arbor Heights no longer considered for closure

To the relief of thr Arbor Heights community, the local school was not included in Superintendent Marie Goodloe-Johnson?s most recent recommendations regarding school closures across the district.

NEW Viaduct replacements to be presented for public comment

A narrowed set of hybrid scenarios for replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct will be presented for comment at an open forum Dec. 16.

From the eight scenarios studied for the last six months, the most promising building blocks will be reassembled into two or three "hybrid" scenarios for evaluation, and for comment from the public, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave.

NEW Seattle and Burien agree on preliminaries of North Highline annexation

Finally, the two cities of Seattle and Burien have reached a preliminary agreement to the proposed annexation of the unincorporated area of North Highline.

The parties involved in the mediation talks include the cities of Burien and Seattle, King County and Fire District 2 and 11.

The basics of the agreement are as follows.

1. All parties support the transition of the unincorporated North Highline to city status in a timely manner that will increase existing local service levels.

Dec. 9 2008, U.S. Stocks fell and bond prices rose after disappointing corporate growth expectations reignited concern over the economy.

FedEx led industrial shares lower on reduced forecasts due to a significantly weaker economy, which also led financial and consumer discretionary shares to decline.

The Dow Jones Industrial average was down 243.85 at 8691.33.

The Standard and Poor's 500 index was down 21.03 at 888.67

The Nasdaq composite Index was down 24.40 at 1547.34.

Ideas With Attitude: I have an excuse for being hyper

Now I wasn't to be outdone by the super malls and markets jumping the gun on the holidays by lighting up even before Thanksgiving. So I went to my closet of supposedly out-of-season clothes and pulled out that red knit top with the snow people on it. Then I added the white knit hat that a friend traded me for my first book and added my large snowflake earrings.

Funny things happen when going out of the house in festive apparel. I even dared to buy gasoline for our gas guzzler. "Here's $20 on number 5," I told the pump attendant as cocky as a gambler in Las Vegas.

For a long time now, people have been warning me this would happen. This whole, "Oh, my gosh, can't I stop the clock" feeling has taken me over. It's like the first 13 years of parenthood were filled with moments of "Well, at least she is almost potty-trained" and "Gee, I can't wait until he is sleeping through the night." Now, all I feel is, "Jiminy Christmas, my kid is going to high school next year?"

This has really been hitting me lately, and hitting me hard.
