Bike racks to be installed all over Burien

WABI Press release:

Very exciting news: WABI Burien has 41 bike racks in production, customized for the City of Burien, and they'll be installed all over town!

We've all been waiting a long time for this. WABI-ists have been working hard to see our city populated with bike racks. We smile at the thought of kids and their families growing up with bike racks to lock up to when they ride into town.

We believe strongly that the presence of these racks will encourage cycling for exercise, transportation and well-being and will have a positive impact on our local economy.

Check out this page for the project overview and links to further, detailed information:
http://www.wabiburien.org/bike-racks-for-burien/

Along with the bike racks comes a special opportunity for businesses and individuals to sponsor a rack featuring their name/logo. This offers tremendous visibility and self-promotion.

SLIDESHOW: Tyee Scores 6 Runs in Bottom of 7th for Comeback Win

The location was Valley Ridge Park, the game was baseball. Seattle Christian, which actually overlooks the park and Tyee High School, played their neighbor on Saturday, March 30th.

This was a non-league game. Seattle Christian, who plays in the Nisqually 1A Conference, came into the game with a record of 3 wins and 5 losses, while Tyee plays in the Seamount Conference and has a 5 wins and 2 losses record.

As to the weather, well, what a difference a week makes! A week ago I was freezing at a track meet, but on this day, I actually got a sunburn. The sun was totally out, not a cloud in the sky, but there was a bit of a breeze. It was so nice I felt I could have burst out in a chorus of, “Take me out to the ball game”, but luckily for everyone I didn’t!

Both teams are young: Tyee has three freshmen who start for them, and three of their four pitchers are freshman. SC also has three freshmen starters.

Both teams played their share of games during the week. Including this game, Seattle Christian played four games in six days and Tyee played four games in five days.

Mayor McGinn honors Jerry Robinson, our publisher, with proclamation

April 6, 2013 declared Jerry Robinson Day

We shared the news earlier this week that King County Executive Dow Constantine declared April 6 of this year Jerry Robinson and Robinson Newspapers Day, and today we'd like to share a proclamation from Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn.

Robinson purchased the White Center News in 1952 and later came to acquire a chain of weekly newspapers from Ballard to Burien. The newspapers have won numerous awards and have been the training ground for many journalists around the region.

Robinson, 93 years old on April 6, remains a vital part of the company and regularly writes for the publications.

The proclamation, also for viewing as a download found up top and in the slideshow, reads:

Whereas, like many others during World War Two, Jerry Robinson found himself contributing to the war effort by moving to Seattle and working for Boeing; and

Police Blotter: More burglaries in Ballard; man throws rocks at other man, hits cars

By Cassandra Baker

2:30 a.m., April 1. 77th block of 24th Ave NW

Two burglars at a Ballard restaurant didn’t bother trying to break open the restaurant’s safe, instead choosing to take the entire safe with them. The burglars pried open the front door, and one of the burglars left two footprints in the front hall, possibly due to stepping in drywall. The two burglars stole the restaurant’s safe, with contents estimated at $10,000 in value. Surveillance video showed two males lifting the safe into a pickup truck parked in a nearby alley.

10:16 a.m., March 31. 59th block of 17th Ave NW

A patrol officer was called to respond to an incident involving two damaged vehicles and a man throwing rocks. The victim said that his friend was following a suspect, and the officer located the subject and took the victim to the scene, where he said that the subject was not involved in the incident. No other subjects were located in the area.
