The Way Out promises to thrill audiences with acrobatics, theater and dance

Beginning July 11 at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center

The Acrobatic Conundrum is presenting a unique entertainment product at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center beginning July 11 that combines acrobatics, video projection, theater and dance with a story providing the glue that holds the performances together.

They describe it this way:

The beaten path leads to a dead end…

Eight strangers find themselves in a room with no exit. They are isolated from the world in a bunker where supplies are scarce. In the absence of enough, the new arrivals see themselves in a different light: vindictive and kind, desperate and hopeful. With no allies but each other, 8 disparate personalities vie for survival, connection, and a way out.

“The Way Out” is 90 minutes of heart-stopping acrobatics, aerial, theater and dance. It is a truly contemporary form of storytelling, using the raw physicality of the performers, video projection, the choreography of Elizabeth Rose and artistic direction of Terry Crane. “The Way Out” spotlights a small company of 8 acrobats with their hearts on their sleeves and their calluses worn smooth.

From ‘Hippie Boy’ to bestselling author, ex-Highline Times reporter inspires others

By Zachariah Bryan
ROBINSON NEWSPAPERS

On the back cover of her memoir, “Hippie Boy,” former Highline Times reporter Ingrid Ricks poses the question, “What would you do if your Mormon stepfather pinned you down and tried to cast Satan out of you?”

The answer, at least for thirteen-year-old Ricks, was: “RUN.”

It’s the story of her memoir, which on June 14 made the New York Times Best Seller List. It details how she grew up with an over religious mother and an overbearing Mormon stepfather, who she ran away from to be a tool hustling vagabond with her father.

It’s just one moment in Ricks past that had cast a shadow over her life, and one that she had put to rest by writing the memoir. Recently, she has been afflicted by another challenge; a degenerative eye disease that is stealing away her sight.

Ricks started out as a reporter over twenty years ago for the Highline Times. From there, she moved on to writing freelance and for The Seattle Times writing about social issues.

Angle Lake Shore Club issues SeaTac fireworks display apology

PRESS RELEASE

OFFICIAL Angle Lake Shore Club FIREWORKS STATEMENT

On behalf of the Angle Lake Shore Club we want to apologize for the late start to this year’s fireworks show.

It is our understanding that this delay was attributed to a late delivery of shells by the fireworks vendor to the preparation site therefore not allowing the contracted pyro- technicians adequate time to get the materials safely loaded and prepped in the mortars.

Once the show was started the displays were quite nice until a little over half way through an 8” shell inadvertently exploded just as it left the mortar throwing one technician into the water. This was cause for the momentary interruption of the show until injury and damage assessments could be completed.

Fortunately there were no injuries however the incident did adversely affect the remainder of the show.

The crew on board the barge proceeded to sporadically fire off those shells they deemed to be safe.

From this experience the Shore Club has learned that communication is paramount in putting on a show of this nature.
