Nearly unwired by wire fraud

By Greg McCorkle

We love our technology. The ease in which we can communicate with each other has reached an amazing level. You can be half way around the world and send texts and emails to friends and family as if they were next door. Unfortunately digital information can be, and is, compromised at increasingly alarming rate. The ability to intrude on personal information has moved far beyond steaming open a letter sent by people you know. I experienced this just the other day.

I awoke to an email from a friend and former college classmate saying they were in trouble.

This is the text from that email…

“Sorry for the inconvenience, I am in a terrible situation right now and am going to need your urgent help. I am in Dublin, Ireland and at the moment and I misplaced my bag containing all my vital items, phone and money at the bus station. In am kind of stranded at the moment I may need a little help from you”.

SLIDESHOW: Senior Day victory for Chief Sealth as they out run Ingraham

By Greg McCorkle

Three Chief Sealth seniors were honored before the game against the Ingraham Rams last night in front of the home crowd for the last game at the Nest for the season. Joseph Kilgore, Leeandre Dickerson, and Jamari Smith came out to center court with their family and friends to be acknowledged for their athletic and academic accomplishments. The electric atmosphere created by the ceremony spilled over into the game.

The Hawks took the opening tip off and had six points on the board before Ingraham knew what happened.

The Rams would regain their composure and close the gap but Coach Slingsby’s squad would not allow a Rams lead to happen.

The Rams would tie the game several times in the first half, but they could not shut down the shooting and defense put up by Sealth who had three starters in double figures.

Every Seahawk scored in the game with the exception of Forward Chad Wollgast, but Wollgast was a defensive force in the paint forcing the Rams to go to an outside game. That allowed the Hawks to build a 27-23 lead at the half.

NHUAC meeting Feb. 6 will focus on dealing with invasive weeds

information from NHUAC

We are pleased to be hosting Grace Stiller, President of the non-profit group “Weed Warriors”. Weed Warriors work with cities and communities to reduce the negative impact of invasive, noxious weeds in public places, like parks, trails, and open spaces.
The program offers education about invasive weeds, methods for control or eradication, and provides opportunities where volunteers participate in "hands-on" restoration projects; thus improving the environmental health, and aesthetic and recreational qualities of our public places.
We are also pleased to have a presentation from Hannah Kent, Neighborhood Program Manager, for Sustainable Seattle. Ms. Kent will be providing information on plans for the introduction of rain gardens and urban gardens at the Holy Family School in White Center. She is also interested in ideas for where these types of projects could be located in the greater North Highline community.

White Center Store Front Deputy, BJ Myers will be on hand to provide updates on crime trends.
