School buses in Highline adopt stop sign cameras

By Tim Clifford

Starting in June those who ignore school buses with their stop signs out will face a hefty $394 ticket thanks to newly installed cameras on buses throughout Highline.

Similar to speed limit cameras that monitor school zones or red lights these “paddle cameras” are designed to snap a picture once a vehicle passes the bus while its stop sign is out. Currently five buses throughout Highline are equipped the cameras with more buses expected to follow soon. For the time being enforcement officials willonly send out warning notices to those caught through May while actual fines will go in to effect in June.

“Until June drivers will get a warning rather than a citation because we’re not out to make life hard for people. We want them to know that we have this capability and we want it to be a deterrent,” explained Catherine Carbone Rogers of the Highline School District.

Street racing leads to the arrest of teen auto thieves

information from the Seattle Police Blotter

by Detective Patrick Michaud

Officers responded to calls of street racing in West Seattle Saturday and arrested three teens for auto theft.

A witness called police at 7:45 Saturday morning and reported street racing followed by suspicious behavior around a car in the 5400 block of 34 Ave. SW. Officers quickly arrived and saw three teen boys run from a car in the area. An officer checked the car and found the steering column, instrument panel, and other parts of the car either damaged or removed. Other officers flooded the area and located the teenagers a few blocks away. While talking to and searching the boys, an officer found a shaved key, used for stealing cars, on one of the teens.

A fourth teen, who stayed at the original scene in another car, allowed officers to search his vehicle. Officers found several car parts from the damaged vehicle inside the trunk of the teen’s car.
The owner of the damaged car called police and confirmed that his car had just been stolen.

Warriors stay solid

Courtesy Article by Gerardo Bolong

When the Seattle Christian Warrior softball team entered spring break, it was playing solid team ball.

Upon the team's return to action, the same can still be said.

Showing good patience at the plate and killing speed on the base paths, Seattle Christian also utilized outstanding outfield action under bright skies to win its second shutout game in a row in Nisqually 1A League 9-0 home win against the Bellevue Christian Vikings on Thurs., April 16.

"We took care of business and the girls were solid," said Warrior head coach Rick Ronish. "I was a little nervous, at first, because we had beaten them soundly (20-0) on Tuesday. We're not that much better than them."

On Thursday, the Warriors opened up like they would batter their opponents into submission with an early stoppage.
