The skeletal remains of a West Seattle man, missing for the past 11 months have been positively identified by a Texas lab as that of Richard D. Arneson according to a story published in the Chinook Observer. The newspaper/website serves the Columbia River, Pacific County area of Washington State.

The West Seattle Herald reported him missing after sending a cryptic text, "My luck has run out." A Facebook page was set up seeking more information.

The Observer story said that "Wahkiakum County Prosecutor and Coroner Dan Bigelow called his relatives late last week to deliver bittersweet news: A Texas forensic lab had used DNA to confirm that Arneson was the man discovered on the bank of the Columbia River near Altoona in May 2016."

This will be a workshop meeting to allow our neighbors an opportunity to discuss a response that is related to rezoning, infrastructure and affordable housing in our West Seattle Junction Urban Village in an open forum. The rezone is contrary to the West Seattle Junction Neighborhood Plan previously adopted by the City that prioritizes retaining existing single-family zoned areas, which will be discussed. We also want to work together to raise awareness of the draft MHA HALA proposal to our neighbors that not yet heard about it or are unclear about what it means. This can be done with media, social media, and block captains. More volunteers needed. JuNO believes that it is important for all of the neighborhoods in West Seattle to start working together to speak with a unified voice on the common issues in order to be heard.

Do you have a passion for the neighborhoods along the Delridge corridor? Have you enjoyed the Delridge Day celebrations in the past? Can you step up to take on the leadership needed to help this growing festival continue?

It is expected that a new leader will bring their own vision of what Delridge Day can be…but there is help, too. For example, the music coordinator has committed to continuing this year. Past organizers have built a network of contacts and action item lists for organizing Delridge Day, so a blueprint is in place.

A new leader should have commitment; great organizational skills; time to contact and follow-up with participants to organize music, food, booths, and equipment; and the ability to build a team of volunteers to assist with the event. You will work with Parks and the city for permitting. Planning begins in January for the August event.
We've been fortunate over the years to have dedicated people step up to make this fun and growing event happen. Community doesn't happen by accident...it takes people willing to build.

Chief Sealth visits Franklin for an 8:30 p.m. Metro League clash Friday as West Seattle travels to Lakeside, then Tuesday Chief Sealth is at Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. as West Seattle goes to Seattle Prep.
Evergreen, meanwhile, drops in on Mount Rainier at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and Mount Rainier hosts Kentlake at the same time Friday as Kennedy entertains Kentridge.
Kennedy hosts Prairie at 5 p.m. Monday then visits Hazen at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday as Mount Rainier entertains Kentridge.

Bloodworks Northwest (formerly Puget Sound Blood Center) issued an urgent appeal for healthy donors today as blood supplies remain at critical levels (less than one day supply) with the flu season, hospitals-at-capacity and weather all taking a heavy toll.

“Blood donations in the first two weeks of 2017 fell far below normal, with collections at 1,500 units below what patients need,” said James P. AuBuchon, MD, president and CEO. “With regular donors down with the flu or colds, we need others to step forward to help fill this emergency need.”

“All blood types are needed. If you are healthy and haven’t donated recently, or if you are a first time donor, we need you now,” he said.

A four day blood supply is normal. A one day supply means there is a risk that all patient needs cannot be met. Most donated blood is used for patients having surgery, cancer treatment or organ transplants.

“We’re doing our best to ensure that every patient who needs blood receives it, but we can’t do it alone” AuBuchon said. “We need more donors: they’re the ones who make lifesaving transfusions possible.”

Thief admits to crime
A man admitted to police that he stole alcoholic beverages from the Super Saver Foods, 10616 16th Ave. S.W., around 2:30 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 9. He was arrested and booked in jail.

Lover’s spat
A woman, residing on the 1200 block of S.W. 98thStreet, was assaulted by her boyfriend of two months. Around 3 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 9, she reported to police that he tackled and hit her, then pointed a gun at the side of her head.

No good deed goes unpunished
A man, who resided on 10600 block of 1st Ave. S., was robbed at gunpoint around 6 a.m. on Fri., Jan. 6. He was driving a woman who he had picked up, because she was out in the cold. The suspect took his cell phone and wallet.

Hit and Run on S.W. 114th Street
A cyclist was hit by a driver who fled the scene around 5 p.m. on Thurs., Jan. 5. The crime occurred at the intersection of S.W. 114thStreet and 16thAvenue S.

Controlled substance at community center

To the editor:

The Republicans are so bound and determined to repeal Obamacare, this being their rallying cry! As Chuck Grassley recently stated, the repeal would occur quickly yet a replacement for it may take a while. Well, I will say this, Republicans: The day you repeal Obamacare and have no new and fair system in place, your own healthcare plans are frozen and not available to you. Then and only then will you fully understand how vulnerable 30 million people will be, as you play your political games! The free markets, the competition among for-profit businesses, caused the huge mess that we found ourselves in – the very reason for The Patient Protection Act (aka Affordable Act akaObamacare) in the first place! And you want to throw this out because it was an accomplishment of the Democrats?

We are supposed to be a nation of laws, governed by the United States Constitution. Which is meant to serve and protect our government, our citizens and the rights of undocumented immigrants, who seek freedom in pursuit prosperity and happiness.

However, our Constitution loses much of its meaning in the sense of those with money and power, who ex halt themselves above the law.

Rather than to preserve and uphold our Constitutional laws, Trump chooses to shred to core of its dignity and integrity and reduce it to the level. Of threatening our national security.

Trump the ring master and all his clowns are stalling for time. Until they set up their circus act in the White House. They need to avoid Trumps conflict of many interest .

Trump is operating on the edge. In my opinion, the dynamics and implications for his call to nuclear arms race, banning muslins and killing ISIS families his dangerous tweeting dividing the country by his racist agenda, he is clearly setting himself up for IMPEACHMENT!
