UPDATE: Drunky Two Shoes BBQ is coming to town – New restaurant getting ready to open in White Center

The decor is crazy, country cool inside

UPDATE: April 10
It's taken nine months but Drunky Two Shoes is set to open April 28. The interior work is nearly complete including a clown painting festooned men's room, stuffed animals on the walls, a chain saw laden chandelier and a bar top that is absolutely certain to be the the subject of thousands upon thousands of Facebook and Instagram posts. It's an epoxy poured eclectic collection of odd objects from matchbooks to spent rifle shells, toy guns and decals that you could probably look at for days and not see it all. Owner Nate Rezac said that the event will feature pony rides outside, live music and much more.

California court case could disrupt WDFW initiative

Wild Future initiative would raise commercial license fees for residents, lower for non-residents

A decision made in a California court case may change the trajectory of a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife initiative that would raise fees for resident commercial fishers and lower the fees for non-residents.

Last December the U.S. 9th District Court of Appeals determined that California’s nonresident fee differential for numerous commercial fishing permits, licenses and vessel registration was constitutional.

A group of out of state fishers challenged California differentiating between resident and non-resident fishers under the Privileges and Immunities Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

So what does the decision mean in Washington State? Well, the California lawsuit was the premise for the WDFW Wild Future initiative, which would essentially not differentiate fees for resident and non-resident commercial fishers, something the WDFW has called “equalizing the fees.”

Shelby's Bistro and Ice Creamery closes after less than six months

The string of business closures at the corner of California Ave SW and Edmunds Street SW continues as Shelby’s Bistro and Ice Creamery, announced they will be closing effective immediately. As usual the issue came down to lease costs which according to former tenants of the space were in excess of $5000 per month.

The location has a history of business failures including most recently A Terrible Beauty an Irish pub which was followed by Westside Public House. The space was completely remodeled by new owner Shelby Varden and opening on July 19, 2016.

The business provided a press release which said in part:

"Shelby’s Bistro and Ice Creamery, commonly referred to as “Shelby’s”, was opened by Shelby Varden on July 19, 2016 in the West Seattle Junction at 4752 California Ave SW. Shelby’s was a full-service sit down restaurant serving appetizers, salads, pizzas, sandwiches, pastas, entrees, and ice cream. Shelby’s patrons dined at the restaurant for the delicious food, cleanliness, friendly staff, and happy “feel good” environment. Many guests said it was a place that made them smile despite whatever else was going on in their lives.
