becomes local heritage organization’s second piece of property
information from Southwest Seattle Historical Society
Thanks to a generous gift by the family of Mike Budinich, the Riverside Memorial triangle that was dedicated in 2012 is now the property of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society.
Initial documents for the property transfer were signed May 31, 2017, and final documents were signed July 19, 2017. The Riverside Memorial is located at 3810 17th Ave. S.W., just off West Marginal Way and almost directly beneath the West Seattle Bridge.
The innovative triangle – a total of 1,010 square feet appraised at $21,200 – features bricks denoting the resident families, largely Croatian, of this historic neighborhood, with the bricks arranged in the configuration of the community’s hillside street grid.
Health Innovation: Impact your personal health
By Tamara Gillest, MS
Good health and great healthcare is a collaborative effort. It’s like a team sport. Each person has their job to do their “role” to play and enjoy the game. The meaning of health needs to be much greater than what our current understanding of how healthcare is defined. Sure, you can rely on practitioners, researchers, insurers, policy makers, and educators for healthcare, but without your participation and action, your health might be in the wrong hands . Are you the captain of your health team? What is your game strategy?
Measurement of good health should include a healthy body, mind, social structure, spiritual connection, and ecological harmony. Innovative health management should include and encourage self-management treatment, prevention, and promotion of wellness for all the above using a wide array of mind-body practices. And it should place you in charge.
Multi agency marine training drill will keep Puget Sound busy July 26
The King County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Section is hosting a multi-agency training drill Wednesday afternoon in Puget Sound between Harbor Island and Discovery Park. Drill participants will include the Seattle Police Department, Washington State patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, King County Medic One and the F.B.I.
This drill will test and solidify the capabilities of the Regional Maritime Tactical Action Group in response to an active shooter or hostage type event aboard a vessel in the Puget Sound. As the only agency in the Puget Sound with both air and water assets capable of delivering law enforcement to an underway ferry, cruise ship or pleasure craft, this training is critical for the King County Sheriffs Office to be prepared to protect our citizens.
