SPD, West Seattle Junction Association Partner to Launch City’s First Anti-Crime Business Block Watch Program

business block watchThis week the Seattle Police Department rolled out the city’s first anti-crime Business Block Watch Program in the West Seattle Junction.  Six months in development, the program is a pilot collaboration between the Seattle Police Department and the Junction Association.

Sealth defeats Roosevelt in offensive battle 42-37

Chief Sealth defended their home turf on Friday against Roosevelt in a battle of the offenses, finally winning the game 42-37. Chief Sealth's powerful offense has scored big point totals in their last three games.

This makes it six wins in a row for the Seahawks after beating Sammamish last week in a decisive 47-16 victory.

Chief Sealth's record goes to 6-2 while Roosevelt's record is now an even 4-4.

Nino Cantu honored for his nearly two decades of service at SWAC; Beloved groundskeeper died suddenly Oct. 12

How do you measure the impact of a life? Is it the things accomplished? Is it the work done? If you ask the friends and co workers of Nino Cantu, it's in the smiles and love shared on a daily basis. Cantu, 51, passed away suddenly Oct. 12.

18 years ago Nino Cantu started with the Seattle School District as a gardener. He worked many schools in the north end and south end and eventually got the Assistant Grounds Keeper position at the newly remodeled Southwest Athletic Complex. He worked his way up to Head Groundskeeper where he served happily the last few years.

Matt Vaughan, founder of Easy Street Records is the featured speaker this Sunday at SWSHS

The speaker for the Southwest Seattle Historical Society series Southwest Stories talk on Sunday Oct. 21 is Easy Street Records founder Matt Vaughan  He was born and raised in Seattle. As a teen, if he wasn’t shopping at record stores he was working at them. How did a kid at 18 years old start a record store, or any business for that matter? Here Matt is, 32 years later, to discuss the beginnings, and much more.
