Call for Musicians—The Art of Music:

 The West Seattle Junction Association plans to present several performances by musicians in  the West Seattle Junction to take place during the Junction’s Second Thursday Art Walks. The first two are scheduled to take place on, and to complement, Second Thursday  Art Walk evenings on August 8 and on September 12.

306 unit apartment development on Fauntleroy way finally underway; Demolition happening

Demolition on the Legacy Partners project on Fauntleroy Way has begun as crews were on site tearing down the former West Seattle Produce and Suite Arrangements buildings on the site. The new apartment project will be large at seven stories and 306 units.

A press release from Legacy Partners the developer said: "The two-building community, located at 4722 Fauntleroy Way SW (seven stories) and 4721 38th Ave SW (four stories), will feature a 306-unit mix of one- and two-bedroom residences, as well as studios and live-work units. USAA Real Estate is providing equity financing for the development, with additional funding from PNC Bank.

Designed by Seattle-based Encore Architects, Legacy at Fauntleroy will have 261 parking spaces and 10,000 square feet of retail space, in addition to a state-of-the-art gym, media room, rooftop deck, and residential WiFi cafe."

Suspect arrested in 2018 Alki stabbing death

Seattle Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for the June 2nd, 2018 homicide on Alki Beach of stabbing victim Jonathan Pecina, age 28.  Officers arrested the suspect in West Seattle.  

Homicide detectives recently received DNA evidence from the WSP Crime Lab linking the suspect to an item left at the crime scene. This week, detectives coordinated with officers of the Southwest Precinct bicycle unit and the Southwest Precinct Anti-Crime Team in an attempt to locate and apprehend the suspect.

On Monday afternoon July 1st at about 4pm, the suspect was located by those Southwest Precinct officers at a coffee shop at California Avenue SW and Fauntleroy Way SW.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

'The Cle Elum Fire of 1918' presented by Roberta and John Newland for new series

  'Words Writers & SouthWest Stories' on July 11th, 6PM, at SW Library Branch 

Bainbridge Island educator Roberta Newland and her co-author (and son) John Newland-Thompson will discuss their book The Cle Elum Fire of 1918  from the 'Images of America' series at this, the first event of the new series.

West Seattle resident Roberta Newland has taught French and English full-time at Bainbridge High School and holds masters degrees in humanities/history and historic preservation. Many of her historic preservation research projects have dealt with West Seattle properties and brick making. Her son, John Newland-Thompson, a writer and editor; together they compiled vivid images that depict Cle Elum before the fire, during the blaze, and as the city rebuilt and developed.

Increased patrols will enforce Firework rules throughout Fourth of July holiday

King County’s unincorporated communities will get assistance in keeping the Fourth of July holiday safe, with a $25,000 boost in Sheriff funding for increased patrols. Metropolitan King County Councilmembers Joe McDermott, Larry Gossett, and Reagan Dunn announced that funds for the King County Sheriff’s Office were prioritized in the King County Budget. These patrols will be on the lookout for illegal firework usage during the Fourth of July holiday.

The farm stands offer produce picked fresh from the P-Patch Market Gardens by resident gardeners of the High Point and NewHolly Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) neighborhoods. Terrence James Heil

Terrence James Heil passed away peacefully on June 27, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born June 17, 1933 to John and Anna (Shoener) Heil in Eagle Butte, SD. Terry was raised in Rapid City, SD where he worked at his father’s auto repair shop, Heil’s North Rapid Service, as well as for the Rapid City Journal. When he wasn’t working, he was busy fishing, hunting, or racing hydroplane boats.
