West Seattle Bridge Community Task Force meeting takes the next to last step in decision process

Six scenarios with timelines presented

The tenth meeting of the West Seattle Community Task Force brought the Cost Benefit Analysis process to a close and shared the conclusions and weighting the six potential options that were considered regarding the repair/replace decision. That decision is expected next week by Mayor Jenny Durkan. The full meeting (though there were technical issues with ZOOM) can be viewed online via YouTube here.

The thrust of the meeting looked as if the short term repair followed by a superstructure replacement is the most likely of paths going forward. No costs other than relative level of cost were included in the presentation.

Mayor Durkan stated her goals for the project:

• Protect lives and preserve public safety

Updates to Safe Start Covid regulations include changes sought by restaurant industry

Libraries, theaters, wedding receptions and more all see changes

Gov. Jay Inslee announced several updates to Washington's Safe Start reopening plan. The changes seek to align guidance and adjustments to regulations of several industries.

"We’re doing this now because we have had ongoing conversations with businesses about how to do these activities safely," Inslee said at a press conference Tuesday. "Instead of tightening restrictions, we can roll some more back to allow safer operation of these activities. Here in Washington, we know the threat of COVID is real and we take it seriously. It is safety, and public health, that come first before anything else in this unprecedented time."

Second round of grants for Burien small businesses now available

Deadline to apply for $5,000 Small Business Grants is October 15

information from the City of Burien

The City of Burien has made a second round of grant funding available to support small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Grants will be made in amounts up to $5,000 and will be awarded to qualifying businesses. Funding is limited and applications will close October 15, 2020.

“COVID-19 has created dual emergencies for our community—the very real public health threat and a significant economic slowdown,” said Brian J. Wilson, Burien City Manager. “Some of our small businesses have been left out of previous economic recovery programs. These grants are intended to help fill that gap and help Burien move forward together.”

Funding for this program comes from money the City of Burien received through the federal CARES Act which disbursed funding for cities to navigate the impacts of COVID-19 in their local communities.
