Our Secret Garden blossoms into a new larger space

When Alonzo Ferandez opened his florist shop Our Secret Garden in 2015 he had big dreams. A self taught floral designer he wanted to create arrangements both fresh and dried, terrariums, sell house plants, gifts, home decor and art. The problem was space. The original location, in the walkway between 42nd SW and California Ave. SW in the West Seattle Junction was only 350 square feet. He did as much as possible in that tiny space and developed a reputation for unique work and friendly service. But that location while reasonably well suited to the shop's name also meant not many people knew where he was, and when the pandemic happened it meant even fewer people could come in.

Kids going back to school, but parents still home means driving rules reminders make sense

By Patrick Robinson

As the pandemic eases, and children begin returning to the classroom, the time of the wild west for drivers deserves some serious rethinking. The "working from home" practice that has been a hallmark of the past year means people are cooped up, but still need to get out to the store or for a meal and often that's a time when people feel the need to take out their aggressions on the road.

Burien's Italian Cultural Center is a 100 year old dream made real

For more than 100 year Italian immigrants have left their imprint on the Pacific Northwest. Working as farmers, truck drivers, coal miners, in construction, and of course in the restaurant industry, they helped shape Seattle.

For the last 80 years many of those in the West Seattle and Burien area dreamed of a location where Italian culture could be celebrated, food could be served and shared, classes held, products sold and celebrations enjoyed.

With the opening of Casa Caffee, a new coffee shop the first part of the new Italian Cultural  Center at 13028 First Ave South the dream has come true.

Westside Seattle spoke to two of prime movers behind the project, board members Giuseppe "Joe" Megale and Gennaro "Jerry" Mascio.
