Rob Saka announces he's a candidate for District 1 City Council seat

Rob Saka who lives in the Delridge neighborhood, has announced his candidacy for the District 1 City Council seat being vacated by the departure of Lisa Herbold.

Saka has served as a King County Charter Review Commissioner,  and a member of the Seattle Police Chief Search Committee that chose Chief Diaz, as well as a member of the King County Districting Committee.

Saka has also been a board member of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, and as the former vice president of the Loren Miller Bar Association, a civil rights organization composed of Black attorneys in the state.  His announcement via social media states:

Power interrupted by lightning causes West Seattle pump station wastewater overflow

Information from King County

A Seattle City Light power interruption caused Barton Pump Station in West Seattle to briefly overflow Monday. King County workers responded quickly and reset the pump station within minutes of the overflow. The station is now back online and operating normally. Cove Beach and Lincoln Park Beach are temporarily closed.

SR 167 Completion Project online open house active till Feb. 20

WSDOT has begun construction on the SR 167, I-5 to SR 509 New Expressway Project. This project is part of WSDOT’s effort to complete State Route 167—a critical missing link in Washington State’s highway network—to benefit the movement of freight and provide access to the Port of Tacoma and downtown Tacoma, while improving safety and reducing congestion on local roads and highways in the surrounding area.

This online open house is intended to provide information about project construction and what neighboring communities in Fife and Tacoma, and travelers in north Pierce County can expect during construction.

Officer involved shooting in Burien

Update 1:49pm

Today at 10:22 AM, Burien Officers were dispatched to a report of a man running into traffic at South 160th and 1st Ave South.  The arriving officers found a male in traffic and stating he had a firearm.  Officers attempted to deescalate the situation and deploy less lethal tools in an effort to get him out of traffic.   The tactics was unsuccessful and shots were fired.  Officers provided aid until medics arrived.  The individual has been transported to the hospital.  No officers were injured.  The use of force will be turned over to outside investigators from the Valley Investigative Team.  The investigation will last several hours and involve road closures in downtown Burien.

There is debris in middle of 1st Ave South but so far no other details on what happened have been released.

Male shot in possible trash talk response

#2023-041809/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:

Police are investigating after a shooting victim in West Seattle reported his injury Monday morning — approximately eight hours after the incident occurred.

Shortly after midnight, police responded to the 5900 block of Delridge Way Southwest for reports of a shooting. A 911 caller said he saw the shooter chasing another man before firing at him. The witness also said several subjects had fled the scene in a pickup truck immediately after the shooting.

Police arrived in the area and found no evidence of a shooting and no victims. Officers left the scene after speaking with the witness and documented the incident.

Then, at 8:11 a.m., the shooting victim called 911 from the same location to request medical aid. Police responded with Seattle Fire Department medics and spoke with the man, who had a gunshot wound to his buttock.

Bank robber gets away after late afternoon heist in the Junction

#2023-042474/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:

At 4:47pm, officers responded to the 4700 BLK of California AV SW for a bank robbery in progress at Key Bank.

Upon arrival, the officers were informed the suspect had passed the teller a note demanding she give him the money from her drawer.

Once the teller gave the suspect the money, he fled the scene on foot prior to officers arriving.

An area check was conducted but unable to locate the suspect at this time.

Titans Lacrosse club is recruiting K -2 players; Season starts March 26

Lots of people don't know that you can get your youngsters involved in our local lacrosse club, the Titans as young as kindergarten, and we are looking for some more K-2 players to join the fun.  K-2 Titans are co-ed so girls and boys are invited!   

March 26th is the beginning of the Lacrosse season for the youngest of the Titans Lacrosse Club. Join the fastest sport on two feet, it's a great family sport.

The Titans Lacrosse Club has K-2nd Grade, 3-4th grade, 5-6th Grade, and 7-9th grade and has produces some amazing players that have progressed to the High School and College ranks.  

Our first practices for the 3-4s, 5-6s, and 7-8s begin this week if you have kids interested in those age groups as well.  

Meet lifelong friends while playing a fast fun game.
