Seattle Police have a wide range of options short of lethal force

Set to come on line soon, pending negotiations, the next version of the Bolawrap®

The use of lethal force in law enforcement is frankly, something most police would rather not do.

The fact is however, people suffering a mental health crisis, others who appear to be under the influence of drugs and obviously those posing a danger to themselves or others present situations that quite often only the police can handle.

But police use of force is often in national headlines when a suspect dies in police custody because guns are involved and other options are not possible.

Ice on West Seattle Bridge leads to 4 car collision

information from the Seattle Police Blotter

At 6:42am, officers responded to a 4-car collision on the westbound side of the West Seattle Bridge just west of the Delridge WY SW off ramp.

Upon arrival, it was determined all westbound lanes needed to be shut down due to ice covering all lanes creating a safety hazard for Seattle Fire, SPD on scene, and motorists.

The jersey barrier that divides eastbound and westbound traffic was moved partially into the eastbound left lane as a result of the collision, so the left lane of the eastbound was also shut down.

SDOT was requested and responded to assist with traffic control.

SDOT also responded to salt the westbound lanes of the bridge. Once SDOT was finished salting the roadway and the vehicles involved in the collision towed from the scene, all westbound lanes were open for traffic.

HERBOLD: Illegal dumping deterrent camera pilot project in Highland Park

Information from District 1 Councilmember Lisa Herbold

Seattle Public Utilities is initiating an Illegal Dumping Deterrent Camera Pilot Project.

The pilot project is for a camera on the 7100 block of Detroit Avenue SW, in the Highland Park neighborhood, just off SW Marginal Way.  This location was selected in part due to the seriousness of the illegal dumping problem there and the relatively low volume of foot traffic. Over 5,000 tires, car parts and household garbage have been removed from this area.
