HERBOLD: Sound Transit timelines for West Seattle and Ballard

Information from District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold

Sound Transit announced this week that the West Seattle Link Extension (WSLE) and the Ballard Link Extension (BLE) will have different timetables for completing environmental review; the two extensions originally had the same timeline. In March the Sound Transit Board added alternatives for the Ballard line; consequently, that line will have an additional Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which will require additional time.

HERBOLD: Outreach to District 1 encampments

information from District 1 City Counciilmember Lisa Herbold

When constituents write to me with concerns about neighbors living unsheltered in tents or RVs, my office provides comprehensive information about how the City responds to such encampments, and how to make reports.  I wrote about that process at length in a recent blog post; you can find it here.

My staff also have developed relationships with the outreach workers, employed by REACH, who serve West Seattle and South Park.  They regularly share information back and forth about the locations that constituents report.  When a large number of you write about the same location, we can even request an update on their progress, and then provide that on-the-ground report back to you.

Papa Tony's Hot Sauce: Personal growth led to the growth of a brand

Anthony Wilson says he lives by the philosophy of Ubuntu 'I am because we are'

Anthony "Tony" Wilson has been on a journey comprised of emotional challenges, and learning over time to love himself enough to build a successful business.

But today he's got much bigger dreams.

Wilson grew up in a modest home in Minneapolis and at age three lived through the trauma of losing his father to murder.

Through his boyhood his male role models were drug dealers, and criminals.

It was not a foundation for success. Nor was his home life.

"Mom is and was a wonderful person, lovely person. But the person she remarried...I mean, I witnessed domestic abuse with him. And I remember that I was five years old on Christmas night. Then he busted the door and did all that. I go hide in the closet. That kind of messed me up a little."

His reaction was to withdraw into his own world.

Uncertainty and self doubt became close companions.
