Mysterious murder victim's mother still pressing for justice; Ka'Don Brown was shot to death April 7

When violent crime becomes almost commonplace, it's easy for the public to forget either out of revulsion or the simple fact that the news concentrates on the latest shock. But for the families of victims the pain never goes away, justice seldom arrives and their grief colors their world.

But for Maxine Brooks it is a mission.

Her son Ka’Don Micheal Brown was murdered on the evening of April 7 and his death remains a mystery.

Nearly 21, he was a young man who loved music, video games, and basketball, and he often played at the Southwest Athletic Complex (SWAC) on Thistle Street in West Seattle. He especially loved football, basketball and spending time with his family.

He had gone to the SWAC on the evening of April 7 to play some video games and basket ball, Maxine said.

She got a call from him at 10:44pm. She was unable to answer but did call back a few minutes later and he did not take the call.

Pat Sweeney was that much needed, all too uncommon kind of person; A good man

Editor's Note; Pat Myrol Sweeney worked for the White Center News as a shop foreman in the early 1960's and from the first time we met him, we the Robinson family knew he was a special man, and a true friend. He met his wife Jeanne in our offices and theirs was a love for the ages. He left to start his own printing company, The Renton Printery which he ran successfully for many years. His recent passing reminded us that there are not enough truly good men in the world. Not enough hard working, honest, thoughtful, funny, clever and deeply loving men in the world. He was all those things and a lot more. Thank you Pat. You truly graced our lives with yours.

His step son Nick Sweeney wrote this about him

Singer-Songwriter Jack Williams coming to Kenyon Hall Sept. 16

Kenyon Hall welcomes masterful singer/songwriter Jack Williams to the stage Sept. 16 at 7:30pm.

The music of Jack Williams, rooted in his native South Carolina, is shaped by a 65-year career of playing folk, rock, jazz, R&B, classical and the popular music of the 30s, 40s and 50s.

He is counted among the most dynamic performers on today’s “folk” circuit – “…one of the most enlightened and entertaining performers I’ve ever encountered”, said Dave Humphreys of Two-Way Street Coffeehouse in Downer’s Grove, IL.

Jack is considered a “musician’s musician”, an uncommonly unique guitarist, a writer of vivid songs with a strong sense of place, and a storyteller in an old Southern tradition who further illustrates each tale with his guitar.

HERBOLD: Myers Way encampment resolved

information from District 1 Seattle City Councilmember Lisa Herbold

I’m happy to share that the encampment at Myers Way has been resolved, under the leadership of the State Right of Way Safety Initiative and King County Regional Homelessness Authority.  Importantly, almost everyone living there has moved into a safe shelter or housing that meets their needs and has a pathway to permanent homes.  I appreciate the patience of the encampment’s neighbors to allow this work to move forward.

Here’s the update provided by WSDOT last week:
