The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Westside Awards, honoring three local businesses and one individual who demonstrates results-oriented leadership, a cornerstone of a thriving economic region.

Baseball

Tyee plays Lindbergh in a loser-out playoff at 4 p.m. Friday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue ahead of a 7 p.m. championship matchup between Highline and Sammamish.

Evergreen already took third.

Chief Sealth, meanwhile, faces a 7 p.m. Friday loser-out affair against Roosevelt at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center.

West Seattle and Ballard are both in the double elimination portion of the Metro League tournament Saturday, also at Steve Cox.

West Seattle meets Lincoln at 1 p.m. and Ballard plays Nathan Hale at 4 p.m.

 

Softball

Tyee meets Renton at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Liberty Park in a loser-out playoff.

West Seattle Junction flower baskets are up for the season

The West Seattle flower baskets are back up ready to brighten the street decor all spring and summer. The baskets are sponsored by businesses and individuals through a program offered the West Seattle Junction Association.

Van Wingerden Greenhouses in Blaine Washington, near the Canadian border is the supplier. They use 50% less water and 40% less fertilizer.

There are 94 baskets on display.

The baskets are a mix of style and type of plants. Sweet Potato vine, Petunias,White Bacopa, Calibrachoa, Dusty Miller, and more.

The baskets will hang until mid to late October.

Teen carjacking suspects arrested after chase

information from Seattle Police Blotter

A 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were arrested after an armed carjacking and pursuit on April 12. Seattle police responded to the 9200 block of 35th Ave Southwest at about 7:46 p.m. The victim reported two suspects robbed them at gunpoint and took their white Audi SUV. 

The suspects left the scene in a dark-colored Hyundai they originally drove and the victim’s Audi. Officers were able to track the victim’s vehicle to Southwest 112th and 15th Ave Southwest. The victim’s Audi was located unoccupied. 

The suspects’ Hyundai was spotted by police. They sped away from officers when they tried to stop the car and a pursuit was authorized. SPD, the King County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol were involved in the pursuit throughout Seattle and Burien.
