Opponents offer alternative views

The Sound Transit Board will vote Oct. 10 on a resolution selecting the final route, profile, and stations for the West Seattle Link Extension light rail project. The decision, to be made on October 24, 2024, will mark a significant milestone in extending light rail service to West Seattle.

The Lancers ran their overall record to 5-0 and their North Puget Sound League Class 4A mark to 3-0.

Clerk at 7-11 assaulted by two men in robbery; Suspects possibly thwarted in second attempt

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

#2024-279573/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:

At 1:31 am on October 2, two suspects walked into the 7-11 located at the 4300 BLK of SW Admiral Wy. The suspects were driving a possibly dark sedan.

The suspects entered the store, and one jumped over the counter.

The second suspect walked around the counter. The suspects punched the clerk in the back twice and jabbed the back of his neck. The clerk felt pain.

The suspects took approximately $200.00 in cash and left in the vehicle. The manager responded to the scene and video footage was reviewed.

Possibly the same car was seen at a 7-11 located at the 9000 BLK of Delridge Wy SW.

The two suspects attempted to walk inside the 7-11 wearing masks, but the clerk locked the door (Case# 24-279550). The SPD Robbery Unit was notified about both incidents.

The Whiffenpoofs are generously donating a significant portion of the revenue from this concert towards supporting ECC's mission.

Support the family of young man who was shot in West Seattle

The shooting death of Laupule Talaga at the Distinguished Foods kitchen rentals facility in West Seattle on Sept 25 shocked the entire community. His wife Maylyn and three children lost him but so did his unborn twins.

The assailant remains at large as the Seattle Police Department investigation continues.

Now a  GoFundMe page has been set up to help support his grieving family with a modest goal of $10,000.

West Seattle lost a cherished figure on September 25, 2024, as Rick Cook, affectionately known as the "Psychic Barber," passed away at the age of 68. For well over four decades, Cook was more than just a barber; he was a confidant, a storyteller, and a beloved community icon who touched the lives of countless West Seattle residents.

A Career Built on Skill and Humor

Rick Cook's journey in the world of hair styling began some 48 years ago. Initially trained as a full-service stylist, he eventually found his niche as a traditional men's barber. But it was his unique marketing approach that truly set him apart.

In the early 2000s, Cook's barbershop shared a building with a psychic reader. Recognizing the attention-grabbing potential of his neighbor's neon "Psychic" sign, Cook decided to match it with his own "Barber" sign. The result? A playful combination that read "Psychic - Barber," giving birth to his iconic moniker.

Drive an EV? Seattle now has public curbside Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations

As of August 19, 2024, Seattle City Light has installed 58 public Level 2 curbside electric vehicle (EV) chargers at 31 curbside locations throughout the City of Seattle. City Light is offering this service to provide access to EV charging for residents who normally cannot utilize off-street parking to charge their vehicles.

What will this service provide?

Curbside charging stations will provide the public with access to Level 2 EV charging next in residential neighborhoods in Seattle. After installation, Seattle City Light owns, operates, and maintains the EV chargers. Anyone who drives an EV will be able to park on the street next to the charger while charging their vehicle. The chargers are open to the public, available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.
