Police Blotter: Intruder jumps head-first through closed window; fight at park over radio; single-vehicle collision at Ballard Locks

12:54 a.m. on May 28th. 24th block of NW 56th St
A man and his girlfriend returned home after walking their dog late on the night of May 27th to hear their back door closing. They found no evidence of an intruder in the house. Soon after, they received an email from a neighbor saying that a man had entered their residence through the back door and gone into the kitchen. They went to talk to the neighbor, who gave them a description of the suspect.
Shortly after, at 12:50 a.m. on May 28th, the victim answered a knock at the front door and found one of his girlfriend’s daughter’s acquaintances standing on the front porch. The young man was visibly intoxicated. The victim noticed that the man matched the description of the intruder. He invited the young man in and questioned him, and the suspect admitted that he had broken into the victim’s house. The victim then told the suspect that he was calling the police. The suspect attempted to escape and a struggle ensued. The suspect jumped through a closed window head first, leaving behind his hat, shirt, and shoes. Officers searched the area for the suspect but could not find him.
11:30 a.m. on May 27th. 56th block of 22nd Ave NW
A man was assaulted in a park on May 27th during a dispute over a radio. The victim said that he was listening to his radio when the suspect came over and said that the radio was his. The victim denied this and the suspect then hit him in the face. A witness confirmed the victim’s account. The suspect left the park after assaulting the victim. The victim told police that he had known the suspect for a while and considered him to be a bully. The victim said that he was not injured and refused medical attention. The suspect was not found in the area.
11:25 p.m. on May 26th. 70th block of 4th Ave NW
A couple returned home on the night of May 26th to find the side door to their residence open and several rooms ransacked. Police believe the suspect moved lawn chairs under a bedroom window and climbed on top of them to force the window open and enter the house. The burglar stole an iPad, cash from several locations, and a file folder containing the couple’s marriage license and one victim’s old social security card. No fingerprints were found at the victims’ residence.
The female victim’s iPad had a tracking device on it and she was able to determine the current location of the iPad. Several police officers went to the location, an apartment on the 38th block of 14th Ave W, but were unable to locate the iPad.
2:30 p.m. on May 26th. 2nd block of NW 62nd St
A woman returned home on the afternoon of May 26th to find her front door kicked open and many items missing. The burglar stole a TV, an Xbox and 8 games, a computer, a video camera, and a locked box that held personal documents. Two white males in their mid 30s were witnessed loading items into an old gold minivan parked in front of the residence at around 2:00 that afternoon. The van then sped away. One of the suspects, the van’s driver, was wearing glasses. The other, the man who loaded the items into the van, was about 5’10” with brown hair and a stocky build and wearing khaki-colored clothing.
5:00 a.m. on May 26th. 67th block of 15th Ave NW
A man arrived at his mini-mart early on the morning of May 26th to find the front glass broken. He went inside and found that a burglar had entered the back office and stolen about $600 from a desk. Nothing else was damaged or stolen. The mini-mart’s security cameras were not working at the time and the burglar alarm did not go off. No fingerprints were found.
12:16 a.m. on May 24th. 32nd Ave NW and NW 54th St
Police responded to reports of a collision involving one vehicle around midnight on May 24th. The car crashed into the metal gates at the Ballard Locks. The driver, a woman in her late teens or early twenties, had to be carefully removed from the car. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. No one else was inside the car at the time of the collision. At the time of the initial incident report, police had not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
