Police Blotter: Shoplifter escapes after making threats; burglaries at Ballard store and homes

2:28 p.m. on June 27th. 1st block of NW 85th St
A man walked out of a Greenwood area store without paying for a large selection of clothing. A store security officer observed the suspect taking jeans, Under Armour, underwear, and T-shirts out of the store without paying for them. When the officer confronted the suspect and told him to return the items, the suspect threatened to shoot or punch him. The suspect then fled eastbound on foot and the officer called 911.
The suspect is described as a black male about 30 years old, 5’8”, with a thin build and teardrop tattoos under his left eye. He was wearing a Florida Marlins baseball cap, dark jacket, and black pants.
5:04 p.m. on June 26th. 5th block of NW 42nd St
A man called 911 on the evening of June 26th to report that his laptop computer had been stolen two days ago. He believed that the burglary occurred when he was out of the house between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on June 24th. Police believe the suspect broke one side of a bathroom window, released the latch, and opened the window to enter the house. No items other than the laptop were known to be missing. No fingerprints were found at the scene.
4:28 a.m. on June 25th. 8th block of NW 85th St
The burglar alarm went off at a Ballard-area convenience store early on the morning of June 25th. The suspect used a large chunk of concrete to smash a large hole in a window and then dropped the concrete inside. The only items missing were several packs of cigarettes. The store’s surveillance tape showed the suspect approaching the store on foot but did not show the suspect’s face. The suspect had a stocky build and was wearing a white shirt and white baseball cap. The suspect’s race and gender are unknown.
7:53 p.m. on June 23rd. 12th block of 9th Ave NW
A burglar stole jewelry and four bottles of cologne from a Ballard home between 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. on June 23rd. The victim returned home to find her back door ajar. She then found that her front door was also open. Police believe the burglar entered through the back door.
The victim’s room had been ransacked, and she said that several pieces of expensive jewelry had been taken from a jewelry case. Police submitted the case into evidence. A partial fingerprint was found by an open window at the residence.
The victim’s neighbor did not report seeing anything suspicious that day.
