Police responded to reports of a man attempting to stab people with a knife on the evening of October 28th. The victim and two witnesses said that they were walking along 54th St when they encountered a group of about seven people. They said that they started chatting with the group and at first it was a friendly encounter. Suddenly one of the people in the group punched the victim in the face, broke a bottle on the ground, and waved it at the victim and the witnesses.
Members of the second group apologized for the suspect, explaining that he was high, and the victim and witnesses moved on. They said that three people from the large group caught up with them and tried to start a fight. One suspect handed the suspect who was high a knife with a 2” blade, which the suspect waved in the air. The victim and witnesses ran into a nearby bar, and the suspects followed them and began throwing items in the bar, including a chair and salt and pepper shakers. One of the witnesses then said that she was going to call the police and the suspects left the bar but continued to behave aggressively.
Another witness intervened and said that the suspect with a knife in fact was holding a pencil but gripping it like a weapon. Bar staff convinced the suspect to leave and no one was stabbed.
The suspects were not found in the area.
