A year after announcing the closure of Carnegie's French restaurant on the ground floor of Ballard's beloved landmark, the Old Carnegie Library, owner Karoline Morrison revealed that she has found a new tenant.

After meeting with numerous interested tenants, it's Bradley Howe of the popular Kangaroo & Kiwi Pub on Aurora Avenue who signed the lease for the 3000 sq ft groundfloor space, wine cellar, and outdoor patio.

"We have been looking for the right person for a year and I think this is going to really spruce up Market Street," she said "It's something completely different from what we've had in here before and we're all very excited."

Founded in 2001, the Kangaroo & Kiwi Pub is Seattle's only exclusively Aussie and Kiwi Pub that brings the taste and culture of down under to Seattle. They offer all the "pub classic from down under" including steak pie, split pea soup, sausage rolls, and of course, vegemite sandwhiches. They also carry imported beers and screen rugby, cricket, and soccer matches on their TVs.

Morrison raved about the Australian food she had ordered when visiting the Aurora location earlier this year and said the pub's cook, Howe' niece, had her own cooking show in Australia and was looking for a bigger kitchen.

Flying the flags of both New Zealand and Australia, Morrison said Howe will dedicate one wing of the space to each country.

Howe will close his current location on Aurora Avenue and the Ballard pub is slated for opening in April 2012.
