Police Blotter: Burglar targets shoes; burglar caught on tape; woman attacked in own vehicle; suspects drive car into building

5:00 p.m. on June 4th. 70th block of Earl Ave NW
A burglar broke into a residence and stole shoes and left graffiti. The burglary occurred between 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on June 4th. The suspect entered through a broken basement window and stole six pairs of men’s athletic shoes from one of the residents. The suspect sprayed insulting, profane graffiti on walls in the victim’s daughter’s room. The victim’s daughter had recently been assaulted by members of a local gang, and the home had also been burglarized in a similar manner in the past.
2:42 a.m. on May 31st. 87th block of Greenwood Ave N
A burglar at a discount store was caught on video in the middle of the night on May 31st. The complainant told police that the security video showed a black male prying open the front door at about 2:42 a.m. The suspect then went behind the counter and stole 24 packs of Newport cigarettes.
12:15 p.m. on May 30th. NW 85th St and 24th Ave NW
A woman was assaulted in her car on the afternoon of May 30th. The victim was leaving her son’s school and made a U-turn when there were no other cars in the area. The suspect pulled his vehicle up behind the victim’s and got out, clearly agitated. The victim attempted to roll up her window but before she could, the suspect walked over and told her to slow down and that he was having a bad day. He then reached inside the vehicle and grabbed the victim’s left arm and neck. The victim began to call 911 and the suspect released her and left the scene in his car. The victim was not seriously injured. She described the suspect’s vehicle as a burnt orange SUV.
12:22 a.m. on May 30th. 77th block of 15th Ave NW
Police responded to reports of a vehicle driving into a business in the middle of the night on May 30th. The business had a hole in the door and part of the wall was missing. A witness said that three teens drove a vehicle into the building, breaking the door. The witness said that the suspects may have been involved in a previous incident in the area about a month ago. Police attempted to contact the owner of the business but were unsuccessful. The building was secured and nothing appeared to have been stolen. The vehicle involved in the incident, which was stolen, was impounded and unsuccessfully tested for fingerprints.
