In collaboration with the Sunset Hill Community Association, Sustainable Ballard is hosting a Solstice Party and Solar Fair on Sunday. That is one of the many events taking place this weekend.

- 4th annual Edible Garden Tour
Looking for inspiration? Or growing tips, planting strategies or answers to your perplexing questions?
Sustainable Ballard’s 4th annual Edible Garden Tour on Saturday, with this year focused on the northeast segment of greater Ballard.
This annual walking/ biking tour is a fundraiser for Sustainable Ballard’s community projects. Take the tour, and see how neighbors use containers, parking strips and raised beds, see bee houses and chicken coops and gather ideas for your own, and explore possibilities with fruit trees and berries. Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions at the dozen-plus sites.
The tour will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Cost is $10 per person (kids are free). Get your tickets and map the day of the tour at Whittier Elementary School, 1320 NW 75th.
- Rock N Roll Marathon and Half Marathon
Marathon starts at 7 a.m. Runs start and end at the Seattle Center.
Streets closed overnight and in the morning in preparation for the marathon (from June 22 at 11:59 p.m. – 11 a.m.): Broad Street from Denny Way to Fifth Avenue N and Fifth Avenue N from Broad to Mercer streets.

Marathon route winds through Seattle on many major roadways, including SR 99, Second Avenue, S Dearborn Street, Rainier Avenue S and Lake Washington Boulevard S. Please see the marathon website for all the route details. http://seattle.competitor.com/
Motorists should plan on delays along the race route throughout the morning and into the afternoon and around the Seattle Center.
Approximately 40 Metro Transit bus routes will be significantly disrupted by the marathon. For more specifics about the bus reroutes, call the Customer Information Office at (206) 553-3000.

Sunday, June 24th:
- Solar Fair:
In collaboration with the Sunset Hill Community Association, Sustainable Ballard is hosting a Solstice Party and Solar Fair at the Sunset Hill Community Clubhouse, 3003 NW 66th.
Advertised as "a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and learn more about local solar energy," the free event will provide attendees with information on community solar, solar cooking, plans for a local solar substation, various technologies comparisons, and creative uses for solar. There will also be music, food and games including Solar Bingo.
Puget Sound Solar, Sunergy Systems, SolTerra Systems, Silicon Energy, Solarize NW Seattle, and Shoreline community College Solar and Alternative Energy Club will be present at the fair.
The fair will take place from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
- Ballard Walk:
The Emerald City Wanderers will celebrate Midsummer Night and the Summer Solstice with a walk in Ballard.
Sponsored by the Emerald City Wanderers and sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association, the early evening walk is a free event and participants of all ages can enjoy the five or ten kilometer stroll with beautiful views.
The five kilometer route is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
Participants are invited to meet at the Nordic Heritage Museum at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, and walks will start anytime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- Pride:
Seattle Pride Parade and March kicks off at 11 a.m. in downtown Seattle. The parade will stage on Fourth Avenue between Columbia and Union streets starting at 6 a.m.
Parade route: North on Fourth from Union Street to Denny Way; west on Denny to Second Avenue N; north on Second into the Seattle Center.
250,000 attending. Expect heavy congestion throughout downtown and in the area surrounding the Seattle Center.
