The competition to redesign the top of the Space Needle now has a winner.

The new design will feature a circle of evergreen trees, alternating light shades of green offset by a dark green background, pointing up to the center and the needle.

The design is by 29-year-old Seattle graphic designer Nicole Commins, who wanted to pay tribute the state's iconic trees and, of course, the city's natural beauty. Commins described the design as "if you were standing in the middle of one of Washington’s state parks, looking up to the tree tops!"

The contest received more than 100,000 votes, with Commins receiving the most. Painting will begin as soon as weather permits.

There were six contestants in total competing for the design, including the original Galaxy Gold and a design by Ballard's very own Ryan "Henry" Ward. Ward's design exhibited his now distinct cartoon-y and whimsical style, a sea of playful fish.

The "Galaxy Gold" paint job, which adorned the Needle for the past six months, was the original color of the Needle and was done in commemoration of the 1962 Seattle's World Fair.
