Neighborhood Appreciation Day is on Saturday, Feb. 9, and the Ballard community is coming out in full force to celebrate their neighbors. Here is a list of participants and events below. You can learn more about Neighborhood Appreciation Day (with a list of other events around town) here.
Golden Gardens Park work party
What: Meet at restroom between upper parking lot and dog park. Please dress in layers, sturdy pants, long sleeved shirts and raingear. Also, bring a filled water bottle and snacks. All tools, gloves and other restoration supplies are provided

Green Lake Litter Patrol Work Party
What: We walk the lake and pick up litter. We have the tools and disposal. Come on out, meet some people and have some fun.
When: 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Winter Bird Walk
What: Explore Carkeek's winter bird population. Learn about their haunts, habits, calls, and identification. Please bring binoculars. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Mystery Book Exchange
What: Trade your gently used mystery books for something new to read. Receive one ticket for each paperback and two per hardback and use the tickets to “purchase” other books. If you don't have books to exchange, you can buy paperbacks for $1.00 and hardbacks for $2.00.

Open House and Film/Dialogue
What: Open House with cookies and tea. Experience our historic building - built in 1890. Film "Globalized Soul: Stories from the Tipping Point to a New World" will be shown at Noon. Friendship dialogue follows.

Greenwood Senior Center Open House
What: Celebrate Neighbor Appreciation Day in the Greenwood area! Folks from the Greenwood Senior Center will come together for warm drinks and treats, as well as live music. We will have a festive celebration in our lobby where you can make a card to acknowledge a neighbor whom you would like to honor and share your appreciation. Please join us; all are welome! Stairway Walks Day
Golden Gardens
We'll start at the edge of the Loyal Heights neighborhood high above Puget Sound, we'll descend all the way to Golden Gardens beach, with glorious views of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound.

Numbers: 1.4 miles: 272 steps down, 272 steps up

Fremont
We'll start this Fremont stairway survey with a stroll along the ship canal, before heading up streets and stairs to the northern heights of the neighborhood and Fremont Peak Park. Then we'll turn back down, threading our way through the eastern side of the neighborhood. This walk will show us both out-of-the-way nooks and crannies and touristy sights of an old neighborhood with a tumultuous past.
