What's cuter than one lion cub turning 1?
Four lion cubs turning 1.
Today, Woodland Park Zoo's "frisky foursome" turned 1. In celebration, the zoo spoiled the quadruplets with toys, bones and bloodsicles -- "frozen carnivore ice pops" -- in festive birthday boxes.
Nobuhle, Busela, Pelo and Rudo couldn't help but pounce (hah!) on their presents. Their mom, Adia, was also treated.
According to the Zoo, the cubs became an international sensation immediately after their birth and quickly grew a loyral fan base. Visitors came in droves to see the young felines. (This reporter was one of them.)
Sadly, for us anyway, the Zoo's animal management staff is making plans to move the cubs to other zoos in 2014, where they will become part of the Species Survival Plan. This means that they themselves, one day, will birth new cubs of their own.
In honor of the cubs’ milestone, Woodland Park Zoo is teaming up with Broadway at The Paramount to provide a special offer for Disney’s The Lion King debuting March 2014. Purchase your ticket at bit.ly/thelionkingzoo using the promo code “ZooTix” and $10 of your ticket purchase will be donated to Woodland Park Zoo. Order by Friday, March 7.
