Bicycle thieves make off with nice peddlers, one suspect tackled, injured and arrested
On Oct. 6 Seattle Police officers responded to a burglary on the 300 block of Northwest 41st Street. A resident told an SPD dispatcher that she saw two suspicious looking males going down the elevator to the parking garage of her apartment building. She said there had been a rash of theft lately and that she did not recognize the two men. When officers arrived they made contact with the complainant who was running toward the two suspects. The men were rolling four bicycles to the exit. The complainant tried to stop one of the suspects but he pushed a bicycle into her, knocking her to the ground. Officers told him to stop, but the suspect fled on the other bicycle he was rolling. Officers pursued the suspect but narrowly missed grabbing him. Officers then told the other suspect to stop, who then dropped both bikes he was rolling and a backpack. He ran, and police apprehended him after a brief pursuit, tackling him to the street. The suspect denied owning the backpack he dropped, but police found five identification articles linked to him. They also found two credits cards that did not belong to him, as well as tools for cutting locks. The two suspects had used the tools to cut the locks of the four bikes stolen. The female complainant and the apprehended suspect were taken to Swedish Hospital for their injuries. The suspect was later booked at King County Jail. The other suspect that fled the scene on the stolen bicycle remains at large but officers did recover fingerprints from the scene, as well as a serial number for the bicycle. The three bicycles recovered were returned to their owners.
Catering company van confiscated by thieves
On Oct. 7 officers were dispatched to a burglary that occurred the night before at a catering company located on the 4200 block of 6th Avenue Northwest. The owner told officers that he believes the suspects jumped a chain link fence and opened a key-code box that contained keys to the business. Once inside the suspects took a laptop, power cord and fled in a company catering van. The business logo is on the side of the van. A neighbor told officers that during the night she awoke from the sound of a voice yelling, “Hey!” There were no surveillance cameras on premises, but the owner plans to immediately install them. No fingerprints were found on the scene.
Non-profit pilfered
On Oct. 9 officers were dispatched to a burglary at a non-profit residing on the 6500 block of 15th Avenue Northwest. The business is on the main level of an apartment complex and access can be gained from the same main door. When the owner arrived at work he noticed pry marks on the door. One Apple computer monitor and hard drive were taken from the office. The owner thought it strange that only one computer was taken because there were numerous camera, lenses and computers lying in the open. Officers dusted for latent prints and are investigating for more leads.
