Seahawks-Panthers matchup prompts mayoral wager

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray today entered into a friendly wager with Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter in advance of this weekend’s contest between our defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks and the Panthers.
“We beat them in October and on Saturday it’s not even going to be close,” said Murray. “The Seahawks are virtually unbeatable at home and we know the 12s are going to be insanely loud. Go Hawks!”
When the Seahawks pound the Panthers into submission on Saturday, Mayor Clodfelter will be sending to Seattle a pair of 100 percent recyclable sneakers by ReKixx, salted caramel brownies from Amélie’s French Bakery and Old Mecklenburg Brewery paraphernalia as part of a gift basket of items authentic to Charlotte.
A result other than a Seahawks playoff victory is unthinkable. However, wagers require both parties to put up stakes. Seattle’s iconic record label Sub Pop has pulled together a gift basket, including vinyl LPs by Nirvana, Mudhoney, the Shins and the Postal Service, contemporary compact discs by Shabazz Palaces, Sleater-Kinney, Sarah Silverman and Luluc, and other music and memorabilia.
“Sub Pop elevated Seattle’s reputation on the national music scene, and the label’s artists continue to innovate,” said Murray. “After the drubbing they take this weekend, maybe listening to Flight of the Conchords will lift the spirits of Panther fans.”
