Man defecates in yard, robs neighbor’s home
On Jan. 8, officers responded to an attempted break in at a home on the 700 block of 16th Avenue Northwest. The victim told police that when she arrived home she heard loud noises coming from the backdoor of her home. She went to check and saw a large white male pulling at her door. She confronted the man. He was surprised and said, “Sorry, I had an accident. I can clean it up for you.” He pointed to “a pile of feces” in the yard, and then he ran off. While officers were interviewing the woman there was a call on the radio the reported a break-in perpetrated by someone who matched the suspect’s description. Officers ran to the scene. The victim told officers that he saw a large white male in his kitchen. The man ran off but took a necklace, foreign currency and a cellphone. While speaking to the complainant, another call came on the radio that reported an officer had apprehended a suspect that matched the thief’s description. Officers brought each victim to the squad car where the suspect was being held. Each victim positively identified the suspect. However, the first victim denied pressing charges against the suspect for the defecation/destruction of her lawn .The stolen items were returned to the second victim. The suspect was booked at King County Jail.
Security officers sprayed with mace, new shoes taken
On Jan. 6, Seattle Police responded to a robbery at a business on the 900 block of Northwest 45th Street. Two business loss prevention officers told police that a male suspect had used mace against them and then fled. They said that they had watched a white male suspect enter the store. He was wearing gloves and looked suspicious. The loss prevention officers thought he would attempt to steal something and sure enough, the suspect went to the shoe department and placed two pairs of shoes in the bag he was carrying. They followed the suspect to the outer entryway and stopped him. They introduced themselves as loss prevention officers. When they asked the suspect to come back inside he sprayed them both in the face with mace and ran off with the shoes. Officers searched the area but did not find the suspect. The valued loss of the shoes is estimated to be $100.
Senior mistakenly reports stolen dresses
On Jan.7, officers responded to a burglary report at a retirement home located on the 5400 block of Leary Avenue Northwest. An elderly resident reported that there were dresses stolen from her room valued at $5,000. Officers spoke with the retirement home staff, and they told officers that the complainant has dementia and has mistakenly reported burglaries before on more than one occasion. Officers inspected her room. There were dresses hanging in her closet. Officers determined there was no sign of forced entry and concluded that no burglary had occurred.
